We are very happy to be hosting BS27 Logistical students from Hamburg, Germany here at the Nautical Institute. We started the week with a tour of Everwind facilities, including their new tug boats. Later in the day the students had a chance to try out our engine and navigation simulators.

Fishing Master Fourth Class
September 21 - December 4
Strait Area Campus in Port Hawkesbury

This program prepares you to challenge Transport Canada examinations for Fishing Master, Fourth Class. You gain knowledge and skills in the areas of:

Chartwork and pilotage
Navigation safety
Ship construction and stability
Simulated Electronic Navigation
General seamanship

To enroll in this course you will also need:
1 year of sea time registered with Transport Canada
Marine Emergency Duties - Domestic Vessel Safety (MED-DVS)
Marine Advanced First Aid
Restricted Operators Certificate - Maritime Commercial (ROC-MC)

There is funding available for Indigenous students and women.

In partnership with Transport Canada we are hosting a Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP) course at Wagmatcook Learning Centre for Indigenous students and women. 90% funding is available plus $70 per day living allowance. It will run from June 8-June 12. To register, please contact [email protected]

This course meets the requirements of a stand-alone course that addresses the particular need for minimum training of operators of commercial vessels, other than tugs, and fishing vessels up to 15 gross tonnage or 12 meters overall length engage on a near coastal, class 2 (including an inland voyage on Lake Superior or Lake Huron) or a sheltered waters voyage. To participate in this course you must be 18 years of age or older.
