Dr. Shannon Freeman is UNBC’s newest Canada Research Chair!

Freeman, a Professor in the School of Nursing, was named Canada Research Chair in Technology Adoption for Aging in the North. The appointment allows her to continue her work to make aging a more positive and supported experience.

The Tier 2 Canada Research Chair is worth $600,000 over five years. UNBC also received $2.9 million from the Government of Canada Research Support Fund to cover indirect costs of research and $64,000 from the Research Security program.

This webinar is aimed at reviewers who want to understand more about the process of collecting information from included studies and exporting it for analysis.

We will walk you through the steps of:
• Creating, modifying, and publishing data extraction and/or quality assessment templates
• Managing reviewers
• Extracting data from studies
• Producing consensus data so that the final data are ready for export
• Export options

You’ll also get tips and tricks to jumpstart your progress, as well as the opportunity to get your specific questions answered.

We are excited to announce that registration is now open for the 2025 Northern BC Research and Quality Conference, taking place virtually on October 23rd, 2025, with pre-conference workshops on October 22nd.

Born from a Northern Health and UNBC partnership, this conference is a forum enhanced with resources and skill development workshops to share health-related research, evaluation, evidence-based practice, and quality improvement initiatives in the North. It has been designed to profile Northern BC research, evaluation, and quality initiatives and will provide formal learning as well as informal opportunities for participants to connect with each other.

Health Sciences PhD candidate Ashley Wilkinson is hearing first-hand from Black and Indigenous Peoples across Canada about the racism they face when seeking and accessing health care.

As part of her doctoral research Wilkinson is interviewing people experiencing homelessness in Prince George, Calgary, Thunder Bay, Ont. and Toronto.
