The Dr. John Archer Library & Archives is excited to host the launch of University of Regina Press's new book "maci-nihithawiwin/Beginning Woods Cree" by Solomon Ratt, retired Associate Professor at First Nations University of Canada and member of the Lac La Ronge Indian band. Joining Solomon will be panelists Tammy Ratt and Jesse Archibald Barber, who will discuss this significant new work.

Our last takeaway - using AI can be empowering and disempowering. Let's all continue the conversation about the nuances AI has on teaching and learning! The ways AI impacts teaching and learning are constantly changing. As partners in the AI Futures series, we will continue to promote collaboration, the sharing of experiences and successes, and ways to support each other and our students.

On Day 2 Drs. Peter Moroz and and Chris Street explored the shift to AI integration in teaching and learning through the lens of "PAP":
Protect: skills and knowledge that must remain fully in human minds — pedagogy should protect these from AI incursion
Augment: effort in which no useful learning happens — use AI as an accelerator to offload routine work
Partner: areas where knowledge can be co-created with AI — AI as a collaborator to create, test and refine ideas

Sessional instructor Eric Hanna stated in his presentation to "Be comfortable making mistakes and learn from them."

Drs. Jes Battis and Allison Fizzard described active assignments in which students interact with their environment and with each other, creating learning so embodied and engaging that it naturally eliminates illicit use of AI.

Dr. Alec Couros' presentation asked, "What do we want students to become capable of doing even when AI can do it for them?" and shared a number of engaging pathways towards answers.

In the next session, Dr. Megan Perram's Socratic-learning app drew on a millennia-old pedagogical approach to create an AI app that can meaningfully support student engagement, a tool which can augment and support — but not replace — engaging human-led teaching and learning.
