We would like to acknowledge and congratulate this years Orange Shirt Design contest winner, Chasity Starr!
Chasity is a First Nations University Indigenous Fine Arts student from Star Blanket Cree Nation. She explained what her design meant to her in the statement below:
"Coming into this, I wanted to lean towards a family bond strengthened by love and culture with the children being the center focus of it. I wanted to incorporate symbolism and meaning within the design. The florals are Cree, which I use often in my work. The turtle is to represent Turtle Island, as well as the Earth and the natural world. I want others to see the strength and growth of family within the design. It is a touchy subject because families were torn apart, but I wanted to show how family can be strong again together. As we look towards the future, families will grow; Indigenous people will grow." - Chasity Starr
Another HUGE congratulations goes out to Chasity! Stay tuned for presale information coming out soon!
