Professors Mark Julien and Danny Cho recently received student-voted teaching awards recognizing the genuine care they show their students and their exceptional approach to instructing their classes.

“I just want to make sure our students are ready for the marketplace. I try to minimize the gap between what they are learning in the classroom and what they experience in industry when they graduate.” - Danny Cho, Professor of Operations Management and Information Systems

“I believe that HR, when done right, can have a profound impact on an organization and I want students to understand the importance of my profession. I also recognize the significant challenges this generation of students have experienced so I want to create a classroom that fosters support, critical thinking, engagement and problem solving.” - Mark Julien, Professor of Human Resource Management

Last week we honoured Randy Ambrosie, former commissioner of the CFL, as our 2026 Distinguished Leader in recognition of his business leadership and career success.

Goodman students—as well as other members of the Brock University and Niagara communities—had the opportunity to meet Randy and learn about his people-first leadership principles during our fireside chat with Dean Barry Wright, including:

🏈 The "Locker Room" lesson: Reflecting on his nine years as an offensive guard in the CFL, Randy says shared goals wash away differences and open the door to embracing diversity and creating a culture where people feel valued. Everyone should be made to feel they might be the most important person at some point in the game. Nobody wins on their own—the same is true in business.

💪 Be a hard worker and build resilience: Regardless of industry, your ability to be a hard worker is a universally transferrable skill. Equally as important is the need to build resilience and be adaptable in a world that's ever-changing. Randy's suggestion? Embrace the "Golfer's Mindset" and protect your positive thoughts.

💞 Show genuine care and curiosity: Get to know people on a personal level. People want to belong to something more than just a job. They want to feel connected to a culture of togetherness where people feel seen and aren't afraid to make, and learn from, mistakes.

Former CFL Commissioner and Goodman's 2026 Distinguished Leader, Randy Ambrosie, will be on campus to share his insights on work and leadership. Members of the Brock and Niagara community are invited to join us for a fireside chat with Goodman Dean Barry Wright on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 2 p.m in the Goodman Atrium.

“I hope that students see that there are a lot of different ways to be successful. The best way to achieve success is through authenticity and a deep commitment to your own values and the things that make you unique, which can serve as a powerful source for your own success." - Randy Ambrosie

Randy Ambrosie didn’t set out to lead a national sports league. In fact, when the 1993 Grey Cup Champion got the call from the Canadian Football League (CFL) in 2017 to serve as its Commissioner, it caught him completely off guard. ...
