Social-Cognitive Development Lab at Brock University

Social-Cognitive Development Lab at Brock University We study social and cognitive factors that influence our behaviors across the lifespan.

Our research considers the influence of children's social and cognitive development on their moral understanding and behaviour. More specifically, we are interested in learning more about children’s honest and deceptive behaviour. We hope to find out more about children's understanding of deception and their actual deceptive behaviours. Additionally, we are interested in cultural factors that may

influence children's understanding and evaluation of lies in different contexts, as well as their actual lie-telling behaviours. Our research also examines issues related to child eyewitness testimony such as children's competency, credibility, and our ability to detect their lies. As a result, our findings are important to parents, teachers, social workers and legal professionals.

Last month we bid a sad farewell to our previous Lab Manager Hannah St. George (see image below). Hannah departed the lab to pursue other opportunities upon completion of her undergraduate psychology degree, and is currently working as a community support worker. Hannah was with the lab since 2020, acting as Lab Manager for the past year. We are immensely grateful for Hannah's contribution to our research. Her strong leadership, dedication to the lab, and joyful presence will be missed. While we are sad to see her go, we wish Hannah all the best in her future pursuits and know she will do great things!

Thank you Hannah St. George !
