Indigenous Mentor Spotlight: Emilie Lougheed
For Métis welder and Okanagan College welding instructor Emilie Lougheed, skilled trades are about more than building things.
Whether she's teaching the next generation of welders or transforming reclaimed materials into stunning works of public art, Emilie demonstrates the many ways a skilled trade can become a vehicle for storytelling, connection and self-expression.
Her work encourages others to imagine themselves as welders, artists, creators and leaders.
Through the ACTION Project at Okanagan College, Mentors like Emilie are helping Indigenous women discover the opportunities that exist in the skilled trades and connect with those who have walked the path before them.
