🚀 Advancing AI in Ontario’s Manufacturing Sector

In 2025, Lambton College launched the Artificial Intelligence for Advanced Manufacturing (AI4AM) Development Site as part of Ontario’s Critical Industrial Technologies (CIT) initiative, supported by the Ontario Centre of Innovation.

As one of ten Technology Development Sites across the province, AI4AM is focused on helping small and medium-sized manufacturers accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence and data-driven technologies.

Supported by Lambton’s Digital Transformation Lab (DTL) and Lambton Manufacturing Innovation Centre (LMIC), AI4AM connects industry partners with applied research expertise, advanced facilities, and tailored technical support to move innovation from concept to implementation.

The AI4AM team provides expertise in:
• AI adoption strategies
• Machine learning
• Predictive data analytics
• Computer vision

Through this initiative, Lambton College is helping Ontario manufacturers integrate advanced AI solutions that improve efficiency, strengthen productivity, and enhance global competitiveness.

Congratulations to April Micah Esteron on receiving the 2026 Board of Governors Award! 🎉

As a former Research & Innovation Student and Business Developer with our team, April made a lasting impact through her professionalism, leadership, and dedication to building meaningful partnerships that created opportunities for both industry and the College.

Throughout her time at Lambton College, April distinguished herself as a Dean's List honoree, scholarship recipient, student leader, entrepreneur, and community advocate. She served as a Student Ambassador, Program Development Coordinator for the International Women's Club, and an active member of Circle K International, while also contributing to initiatives that supported student success, community engagement, and sustainability.

We had the privilege of working alongside April and witnessing firsthand her drive, innovation, and passion for helping others succeed. Her achievements are a reflection of her hard work, resilience, and unwavering commitment to excellence.

Project Highlight! 🚛⚠️

Title: Utilizing Artificial Intelligence Safety Technology for Industrial Vehicles
Partner: Global Sensor Systems Inc.

Lambton College is partnering with Global Sensor Systems Inc. (GSS), an Ontario-based leader in vehicle safety technologies for heavy trucks and fleet vehicles.

GSS is tackling a major safety challenge in construction, utility, and road work environments where reversing vehicles create significant risks for workers and operators. Through this project, GSS is enhancing their flagship products SearchEye and SecurePath, an AI-driven multi-sensor automatic reverse braking system that uses LiDAR Time-Of-Flight(ToF), digital cameras, and wireless communication to detect hazards and help prevent collisions.

Lambton College’s Digital Transformation Lab (DTL) and Artificial Intelligence for Advanced Manufacutring (AI4AM) Development Site will support R&D, prototyping, and system testing to help advance the technology toward commercialization.

The project is expected to improve worksite safety, expand GSS into new markets including construction, utility and road work, and support significant revenue growth over the next three years.

Interested in research, equity, diversity and inclusion, and creating meaningful social impact? Lambton College's Research & Innovation department is seeking a part-time student researcher to support a national, multi-institutional project focused on advancing EDI in applied research across Ontario.

In this role, you'll gain hands-on experience in:
🔹 Applied research and environmental scanning
🔹 EDI strategy and program development
🔹 Project coordination and stakeholder engagement
🔹 Research ethics and evaluation
🔹 Knowledge mobilization and reporting

📅 Contract: 6 months (potential extension)

Lambton College has been selected as one of only 11 institutions nationally, and one of only two colleges in Canada, to lead a new Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada Dimensions Grant project advancing equity, diversity and inclusion in research.

As the only Ontario college chosen through this competition, this recognition highlights the strength of Lambton College Research & Innovation’s leadership in inclusive applied research and EDI-driven practices.

The project will bring together Lambton College, Fanshawe College and Mohawk College to strengthen EDI training and mentorship across the post-secondary research sector.
