🔬🦷 That’s a wrap on our Summer Research Program!

Today, we celebrated 10 College of Dentistry students who spent their summer gaining hands-on research experience, exploring new ideas and contributing to oral health research alongside their faculty supervisors.

The program wrapped up with the presentation of certificates of completion, recognizing the hard work, curiosity and commitment each student brought to their research experience.

Congratulations to all 10 students, and a sincere thank you to the supervisors who provided their time, expertise and mentorship throughout the summer.

And with submissions now in, we wish our students the very best of luck in the CADR-NCOHR Student Research Awards! We’re proud to see your summer research represented on the national stage.

🦷 White coats. Big smiles. An exciting milestone.

This afternoon, the College of Dentistry celebrated our 2026 White Coat Ceremony, recognizing 35 DMD students from the Class of 2029 and 10 IDDP students from the Class of 2028 as they take an important step forward in their dental education.

Surrounded by family, friends, faculty and staff, our future dentists received their white coats and marked their transition into the clinical phase of their education.

Today was a celebration of how far they have come — and of the exciting journey still ahead.

Congratulations to all 45 of our future dentists! We are incredibly proud of you and can’t wait to see where the next chapter takes you.

Week 2 of Orientation Week got a little sweeter yesterday with our College of Dentistry Ice Cream Social! 🍨

Students, faculty and staff took a break to enjoy some treats, catch up with familiar faces and connect with new ones as we continue to welcome everyone back to the College.

📸 One step closer.

This week, we welcomed back our returning Year 2, 3 and 4 DMD students, along with our Year 2 Dental Therapy and Year 2 and 3 Dental Hygiene students, as they begin another year at the College of Dentistry.

Each new academic year marks another step forward — more knowledge, more clinical experience, more confidence and one step closer to becoming the oral health professionals they have worked so hard to be.

It was great to see familiar faces back in our classrooms, clinics and hallways and to feel the energy of a new year underway.

🦷 Ready to take the next step in your dental career?

Applications are now open for the new Master of Science in Periodontology at the University of Saskatchewan College of Dentistry.

Beginning in fall 2027, this expansion program will offer practicing dentists the opportunity to pursue advanced specialty training through a three-year clinical specialist program combining intensive clinical experience, advanced coursework and thesis-based research.

Train in our newly renovated, state-of-the-art dental facility while developing advanced expertise in periodontology.

Completion of this program will allow you to take the:
- National Dental Specialty Examination (the National Dental Examining Board of Canada)
- Fellowship Examination (Royal College of Dentists of Canada)
- Diplomate Examination (American Board of Periodontology).

Only three positions are available for the inaugural class.

📅 Applications open: Sept. 1, 2026

📅 Application deadline: Dec. 31, 2026

🎓 Program begins: Fall 2027

🥼 A milestone moment is almost here.

This Friday, the USask College of Dentistry will celebrate one of the most meaningful moments in a dental student’s journey — the 2026 White Coat Ceremony.

Students from the Doctor of Dental Medicine Class of 2029 and International Dental Degree Program Class of 2028 will be officially cloaked in their white coats and recite the Code of Professional Conduct — marking their transition from the lab to the clinic and a new responsibility to the patients they will serve.

Ahead of Friday’s ceremony, our latest article looks at the meaning behind this tradition and what the white coat represents as students take this important next step in their professional journey.

👏 Celebrating 36 years of dedication to dental education

Last Friday, the USask College of Dentistry was proud to recognize Dr. Dave Stark for his remarkable 36 years of teaching and service to the College.

Dr. Stark’s connection to the College began as a student in 1985. After graduating with the College’s gold medal in 1990, he was quickly recruited back to teach — beginning an extraordinary career in dental education that would span generations of students.

Over the years, Dr. Stark served in numerous teaching and leadership roles, including as a clinical professor and leader of the College’s preclinical program. Even after officially retiring in 2020, he continued giving back as a part-time sessional lecturer and faculty member through this year.

His impact can be seen in the hundreds of students he has taught, the colleagues he has worked alongside and the programs he helped strengthen.

Thank you, Dr. Stark, for 36 years of teaching, mentorship, leadership and commitment to the College of Dentistry. Your legacy will continue through the generations of dental professionals who had the privilege of learning from you. 🦷💚
