Congratulations Baylie White, recipient of the Edwards Goodspeed Award at Spring Convocation 2026. 🎉

This award recognizes the student with the highest cumulative average graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. Today, Baylie graduates with a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting, earning Great Distinction.

Throughout her studies, Baylie received 14 scholarships and awards, including the Edwards Undergraduate Scholarship, Joseph H. Thompson Scholarship, the Korpach Family Scholarship, the MNP Accounting Scholarship, the Nicole Mackisey Leadership Scholarship and many more. She was also on the Dean’s Honour Roll every year from 2021 to 2026.

Beyond academics, Baylie was President of the Accounting Club of Edwards (ACE) in 2025-26, an accounting delegate on Edwards JDC West for the same period, Vice President of Finance for ACE from 2023-25, and a buddy with the USask Buddy Exchange Program.

Baylie has visited 12 different countries and studied abroad in Liverpool, England, for six months as part of her degree. She is currently completing the MPAcc program at the Edwards School of Business and plans to obtain her CPA designation. She will then begin her career at MNP, with the goal of becoming a forensic accountant.

Reflecting on her time at Edwards, Baylie encourages students to take advantage of every opportunity. While academics are important, she notes that the experiences she had and the friendships she built made her time at Edwards memorable. Receiving the Goodspeed Award, she says, means more than she can put into words. She also shared her appreciation for the support of her family, friends, and professors, who believed in her throughout her journey.

Please join us in congratulating Baylie in the comments! 👏

This June, in recognition of Indigenous History Month in Canada, we're highlighting what faculty and staff at Edwards are reading and watching to deepen understanding, foster reflection, and support ongoing learning.

Tara Hackl, executive assistant, shares her thoughts below! 💭

🎥: Divided Loyalties directed by Mario Azzopardi

Watching Divided Loyalties as an 18-year-old white girl from Saskatchewan in 1990 started the shift in my understanding of Canadian history and Indigenous peoples. The film tells the story of Mohawk leader Joseph Brant and the difficult choices faced by the Mohawk people during the American Revolution, as loyalties were divided between the British Crown, emerging American forces, and the survival of their own people and culture.

At that time, Indigenous cultures, perspectives, and histories were rarely discussed in schools or everyday life in a meaningful way. The film challenged the simplistic “cowboys and Indians” narratives many of us grew up with and confronted me with the reality that Indigenous people carried impossible political, cultural, and personal choices during colonization.

Seeing Canadian actress Tantoo Cardinal on screen also mattered. I had rarely seen Indigenous representation in film portrayed with such humanity, strength, and complexity. Her presence brought emotional depth to a story I had never considered from an Indigenous perspective. Looking back, the film became an early catalyst for paying closer attention, asking better questions, and continuing a journey of learning about Indigenous histories and experiences in Canada that continues to this day.
