: Last month, the USask College of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies hosted the university's annual 3MT competition, where graduate students put their communication skills to the test by explaining their research in under three minutes — making complex science accessible to everyone.

One of the competitors was graduate student Laura Kellerer from the Department of Veterinary Microbiology. Her presentation explored how a viral protein called ICP4 acts like a “key” that unlocks herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV‑1), giving it access to its DNA so it can replicate.

By studying how this protein works, researchers hope to stop it from multiplying, a promising step toward a real cure for the challenging virus.

In honour of Red Dress Day, members of the USask community have come together to decorate and hang bells to honour Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People.

Thank you to Aurora Wolfe, Indigenous Initiatives Coordinator at CGPS, for leading and organizing this project, to Elder Mary Lee for sharing your wisdom, and to the those who participated in this installation.

If you're on campus in coming weeks, find time to sit outside Gordon Oakes Red Bear Student Centre, listen to the bells, and reflect.
