Dear DUAS Member,
Hope everyone is doing good in this super cold weather and safe from COVID-19.
As you all know, International Mother Language day is approaching. As DU alumni, we are proud to be a part of the 1952 language movement history. Hence, we were thinking of doing something (recitation, songs, cherish memories of Ekushey February in DU campus, etc.) virtually to observe International Mother Language Day 2021. I believe as DU alumni, we all have some memory of the Ekushey February on campus.
Let's plan a virtual observance on 20th February afternoon (the same time as 21st Feb in Bangladesh when the Provat Fery is on) to pay tribute to our Bengali Language Martyrs. Please discuss your idea here or in the messenger group. Also, we can plan a meeting in this regard.

Dear DU Alumni of SK,
Good afternoon!
I would like to share our recent activities regarding our upcoming Thanksgiving potluck. First, we wanted to book a community church or school facilities for your potluck, if we have 90 peoples (25 to 30 families) on this event. However, we couldn't find any such facilities on 13 October at 5/6 pm (for 3 hours) within our budget (around 100 to 150 CAD). Most of the facilities are already booked for the day. Also, the next day is a statutory holiday; for this reason, all the facilities are closed after 5 pm. Due to the recent restriction from the UofS residence authority on the reservation of the hall, we couldn't book the Assiniboine or Walston hall (We have alumni from Assiniboine hall). Hence, we had no choice to book the room Souris Hall from UofS residence (Thanks goes to Nazia and Ruhul). But the problem remains. If we cross 60 persons (including all family members), then we have no choice to book other available facilities at the same date and time (which likely not possible due to the early closer), or we have to look for the noon at that day or move the day.
Anyway, we planned to move forward for our first potluck based on the Souris hall as a venue. Hence, most of the volunteers of the potluck organizing committee meet yesterday at 8.30pm to discuss the food menu. After reviewing a great variety of potential options, we all agreed to make the cooking simple and convenient for our members. Therefore, we came with the menu of Khichuri, Chicken curry, egg curry, dessert (Pawesh), salad, and soft drinks.
Now, we need an estimate on the persons who can attend our first DU alumni gathering. Therefore, please confirm by Monday morning if you are joining or not. Please comment below this post with your name (full name) and the number of persons from your family (indicate if you have a child less than 5 years old). Also, please invite and confirm if you know any friends from DU (either new in Saskatchewan or he/she not connected to this Facebook group) can join this exciting gathering.

Dear Dhaka University Alumni of Saskatchewan,
As per our discussion in the first meeting, we wanted to meet with more alumni and further discussed with our mission, vision, goals, obligations, membership criteria, etc.; therefore, we agreed to arrange a potluck on 13th October (during the Thanksgiving long weekend). We already got the following volunteers to organize this potluck.
Ruhul Amin, Shayeb Shahriar, and Nurul Huda Palash will follow up Hall booking (depending on the number of persons and availability) either from UofS residence hall or a community Church
Tahmina Shaheen (will coordinate), and Mahbuba Ahsan Putul, Shahrima Tahsin (Cynthia), Apel Mahmood Rifat, Rasel Kabir will assist Food coordination and room decoration and others
Currently, we are assuming more than 80 participants (including family members) that required to book a community Church. Therefore, me, Palash vai and Gautam da working on it.

Dear Dhaka University Alumni of Saskatchewan,
I am delighted to introduce this group “DU alumni of SK” under the page name “Dhaka University Alumni of Saskatchewan” to you as a networking platform for the DU alumni living in SK. After our first meeting in 22nd September organized in the Bowl (In front of the geology building), University of Saskatchewan. During our meeting, we decided to have a networking platform from our DU alumni living in SK, therefore, would like to create an email account and separate Facebook account for our platform. For this reason, I have created a google account named “Dhaka University Alumni of SK” and the email address is [email protected]. Also, I have tried to open a separate Facebook account which required a First and last name. After couple of tries I failed to be named it First name: Dhaka and Last name: University with some other similar titles, however, none worked. Later, we tried “Du Kriti Sontanera” as a name and Dhaka University’s birth date and created an account. I already sent friend requests to some of my fellow DU alumni, however, after couple of hours Facebook blocked the account due to suspicious activities (???) and asked for a phone and a photograph of the account holder. Even after providing my phone and photograph, the account is not unblocked by Facebook. Therefore, this left me no choice to continue the previous old page and group crated under my account. However, according to your last meeting, I assigned all the focal points as a moderator of this group. Please add or suggest your known DU alumni living in SK who are not in this group. In this way we will be able to better communicate with our alumni.
Regards,
Shayeb Shahariar
