Secretary-Treasurer - Narsimha Pujari

"Hey, fellow Grad students,

I am an M.Sc. student who is investigating the biochemical facet of mental illnesses such as depression and schizophrenia.

Even though my post on the committee confines me to handle the financial responsibilities of the student body, I am always interested in talking, sharing and solving the new challenges faced by grad students in WCVM. Communication is the best way to address every problem, and I believe in the quote " A chain is only as strong as its weakest link".

So my humble request to you is, "Talk to us about your concerns" and we will make sure it reaches to the right people. We are here to help bridge the gap between administration, academics and students.

Thank you!"

Events Coordinator- Anand Krishnan

"Hi! I am Anand Krishnan Nambisan, an international Master’s student at WCVM, working under Dr Adelaine Leung in the Department of Veterinary Biomedical Sciences. My research deals with decoding and understanding the structural characteristics of a major psychiatric risk protein, Disrupted in Schizophrenia 1 (DISC1). This is my first year at the U of S, and I am fortunate to be able to join the WCVM GSA as the Events coordinator.

As a novice, I have greatly benefitted from seniors at WCVM GSA and am keen to contribute my mite to the organization. I believe this organization serves as an excellent forum for WCVM graduate students to interact with one another, share their joys and success, address their concerns and grievances. We, the WCVM GSA executives, will do all it takes, within our power, to ensure a solid platform for student interactions."

Very important topic!

Attention All Graduate Students:

Many of our members have heard about a proposal to increase tuition fees by 5% and to increase the differential fee multiplier for international graduate students from 1.5 to 1.68 beginning in the academic year 2018/19.

The GSA considers this proposal unjustified, it can drastically hinder research quality and graduate education accessibility and affordability in the University of Saskatchewan.
We call upon all of our members to take 5 seconds of their time to sign the attached petition against the proposed drastic tuition hike, which is far above the levels of inflation.

Stopping this hike is our mutual responsibility. Please share with and encourage your colleagues to sign this petition.

*******THE DATES HAVE CHANGED!*********
The Nap Room will take place December 18,19,&20. Same times and same place

The university is busier than ever -> even finding a place to host the nap room was hard to find! But we couldn't let you guys down. So leave the carrels and tables to studying and take your nap somewhere comfortable and safe.

Time and time again, research has shown that a short nap can improve mental capacities like memory and focus. Come see why companies like Google and Nasa encourage their employees to take naps at work.

This year we'll be sleeping with the fish beside the science library. Don't worry about noise or lights though, we've got complimentary earplugs and eye masks to make sure you're comfortable.

The Nap Room is FREE for all students and staff :)
