Emergency Services Academy Ltd. ESA has expert trainers from within the emergency services industry. Our EMS and Fire instructors provide up-to-date real-world experience.

Training is in a simulated work environment which immerses students in realistic situations. Emergency Services Academy Ltd. ("ESA") is a private career college located in Sherwood Park, close to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada which provides professional fire fighter training and emergency medical training. Our three core vocational education programs are Professional Fire Fighter, Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)and Primary Care Paramedic (PCP). ESA programs are fully accredited. Our firefighter graduates work in rural and urban areas throughout Canada, and our EMR and PCP grads are an important part of paramedical care.

**DID YOU KNOW? ESA HAS A NEW LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM!**

We're excited to introduce ESA's new Learning Management System (LMS), designed to support your learning experience and provide access to course materials, online learning activities, and examinations!

Before you start your ESA course or program, let's talk technology!

To ensure you're ready for learning, all students must have access to a compatible personal device before their course or program begins and throughout its duration.

Compatible Devices:
- Windows laptop
- Mac laptop
- Apple iPad

**What about Chromebooks and Android devices?**

While these devices may work for some online activities, they are NOT compatible with the secure/locked browser required for examinations and cannot be used as your primary examination device.

Get Tech-Ready Before Day One!

Whether you're preparing for a career in firefighting or paramedicine, having the right technology is an important part of being ready for your training.

**Already registered or planning to apply?** Take a moment to check your device compatibility so you're ready to go!

**Have questions about device requirements or our new LMS?** Please contact ESA Administration. We're happy to help!

Looking back at some of our best photos, one thing stands out: no one succeeds here alone. ESA students train, push through challenges, and grow stronger because they rely on each other - the true power of teamwork.

🎉 100% COPR PASS RATE — AGAIN! 🎉

We are incredibly proud to share the results from the September 2026 COPR examinations — and they are worth celebrating!

Every ESA student who wrote was successful.

Emergency Medical Responder (EMR): 100% pass rate — 14 ESA candidates, compared with an 82% national pass rate.

Primary Care Paramedic (P*P): 100% pass rate — 21 ESA candidates, compared with an 82% national pass rate.

That means 35 ESA students wrote their COPR exams in September — and all 35 passed!

Even more impressive, our students didn't just pass. ESA's average standardized score was 562 for EMR, compared with the national average of 520, and 608 for P*P, compared with the national average of 546.

These results represent a tremendous amount of hard work from our students, instructors, preceptors and the entire ESA team. We know how much time, commitment and determination goes into reaching this milestone, and we couldn't be prouder of our graduates.

Congratulations to our newest EMRs and P*Ps — 100% again!

🔥 Fire 2026-08 showed up in a BIG way! 🔥

Last Sunday, our Fire 2026-08 students took part in the We Got Your Six 6K First Responders Race, Walk & Ruck in Spruce Grove — and they didn’t just participate… they made an incredible impact.

Together, this group raised an amazing $7,287.67 — earning them the Top Impact Fundraiser trophy! 🏆

We’re incredibly proud of this group. Becoming a firefighter is about so much more than learning the skills of the job. It’s about service, teamwork, community and showing up for others — and these students demonstrated all of that this weekend.

$7,287.67 raised. A 6K completed. One well-earned trophy. And a pretty great group of future firefighters.
Congratulations, Fire 2026-08! We are very proud of you!

Situational Awareness: Look Beyond the Patient 🚑

Paramedics rarely get to choose where an emergency happens.

A patient may be in a cramped room, inside a vehicle, outdoors, in a public space, or surrounded by people, distractions and hazards. That’s why scenario training at ESA goes beyond practising clinical skills.

Our P*P students recently worked through scenarios in a variety of environments designed to challenge their situational awareness, communication, decision-making and adaptability.

They had to assess more than just the patient: What is happening around me? Is the scene safe? Who else is involved? What information am I missing? How does this environment change my approach? What could happen next?

The goal is to make training feel as close to real life as possible. Because when students encounter these situations in practice, we want them to have experience thinking beyond the textbook and adapting to the scene around them.

Real environments. Real distractions. Real-time decisions.

That’s where learning comes to life.

For those with a keen eye: students were specifically permitted to participate without eye protection during this exercise, as there was no clinical or procedural component requiring it.

Today, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we pause to honour Residential School Survivors, their families, and communities, and to remember the children who never returned home.

Wearing orange is a simple way to show solidarity and keep the promise that Every Child Matters.

We encourage all to take time to listen, learn, and reflect on this important day, and to continue supporting meaningful reconciliation year-round.

For those who want to leave fire and emergency services better than they found them!

Last week, Darrell had the honour to facilitate the intensive, case-based 5 day ESA Fire Service Leadership Workshop at our Sherwood Park Campus.

Another great group, with this cohort representing fire service and paramedic education leaders.

In our first year offering leadership programs, we have had the opportunity to connect with over 200 leaders from all over Canada.

Workshops are held at ESA's campus in Alberta or hosted by departments for in-house education or regional courses.

We are fully booked for the rest of 2026, and dates for 2027 will be coming out soon. If you are interested in more information check out the link in the comments or email [email protected].

Feedback has been extremely positive, the network being built is strong, and references are available upon request. The programs are challenging, thought-provoking, and fun!
