Sometimes it seems like there's a day for everything, but if it gives us a chance to educate, inspire, and share some adventures from our students and faculty, we're happy to celebrate!

June 16 is International Waterfall Day—a day dedicated to appreciating the beauty of waterfalls around the world while raising awareness about the importance of protecting our aquatic ecosystems, rivers, streams, and watersheds.

One of the best ways to celebrate? Get outside and visit a waterfall near you! Here are a few of our local favourites:

📍 Lynn River Falls in Port Dover
📍 Apps' Mill Nature Centre in the County of Brant
📍 Hamilton, Ontario—known as the "Waterfall Capital of the World" with more than 100 waterfalls to explore
📍 And of course, the iconic Niagara Falls

Whether you're hiking, taking photos, enjoying a picnic, or simply listening to the sound of rushing water, waterfalls offer a great reminder of the beauty and importance of the natural world around us.

For Fanshawe College Alumni Tara Carpenter, education has always been about exploring beyond four walls. A graduate of our Adventure Expeditions and Interpretive Leadership program, Tara has built a career inspiring people of all ages to connect with the natural world through her work at Nature's Calling Environmental Education.

Reflecting on her journey, Tara shared:

The Adventure Expedition and Interpretive Leadership course changed my life. I was able to fulfill a lifelong dream of running a Forest School. After graduating.... life took me guiding down the Grand River withGrand River Rafting Company LTD, on the Board of Directors for the Long Point Biosphere Region, programming at Whistling Gardens and Five Oaks, opening my own Private School - GROWE Outdoor School and now the Programs Director at Nature’s Calling. This course introduced me to the right people, taught me essential skills, and gave me the confidence to leap into a career that I only dreamed of.

From guiding adventures to leading environmental education programs, Tara's story is a reminder that learning doesn't end at graduation—it grows with every new trail explored and every community impacted.

We're so proud to see our alumni turning their passion into purpose and helping the next generation discover that the best classroom can sometimes be the great outdoors. 🌿🍃

For most Canadian Students
Your $250 non-refundable deposit is due June 15. Please review your fee invoice to confirm your deposit due date. The remaining balance of your fees is due on the 10th day of the term.

For International Students
Please ensure your fees are paid in full by the due date listed on your fee invoice. Review your invoice carefully to confirm the amount owing and payment deadline.
