We invite you to join us for Relational Research: An Indigenous Health Research Symposium on October 1, 2026.
This free, hybrid event celebrates Indigenous health research, meaningful dialogue, and shared learning. Guided by the principles of relationality, respect, and reciprocity, we're bringing together researchers, students, Elders, community members, and research partners for strength-based, solution-focused knowledge exchange.

The Symposium brings together people from diverse disciplines, sectors, and backgrounds to share research, experiences, and developments in Indigenous health and health research. We invite you to join us for a day of learning, sharing, connection, and conversation.

While you're in Corner Brook, we invite you to stay and join the 10th Annual All-Nations Powwow, hosted by Grenfell Campus’ Office of Indigenous Affairs on Sunday, October 4, in the Arts and Science Atrium (AS 2C01). Gather with us from 11:00 AM–3:00 PM, with an opening reception at 11:00 AM followed by Grand Entry at 1:00 PM.

Call for Abstracts, deadline September 1st, 2026. Relational Research: An Indigenous Health Research Symposium. The Indigenous Health Research Symposium Planning Committee invites abstract submissions for this free, hybrid gathering celebrating Indigenous health research, meaningful dialogue, and shared learning. Guided by relationality, respect, and reciprocity, this public event brings together researchers, students, Elders, community members, and research partners for strength-based, solution-focused knowledge exchange. Health is understood holistically, encompassing physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being for individuals, communities, and the environment. Faculty, staff, students, independent researchers, and community organizations engaged in Indigenous health research are welcome to submit ongoing or recently completed (since 2021) work. While submissions from across Canada are welcome, we especially encourage research connected to Newfoundland and Labrador and connected Indigenous territories. Presentations may take many forms—oral, poster, virtual poster, storytelling, performance, screening, or other creative and community based formats—delivered in person at Grenfell Campus, virtually, or pre-recorded. Juniper House calendar for August 2026 is up! All our events and services are available to Indigenous students at Memorial. Drop in on Wednesdays for some mid-week MUNchies (snacks!). Stop by August 4th for our beading circle 2-4pm, or craft circle 1:30-3:30pm on the 11th. Beginning Monday, August 10th, we will be offering a morning smudge and/or lighting the kullik for the duration of exam week, as needed. We'll be offering frybread on the 18th, so come on in and partake. Friday, August 28th, stop in to learn to administer Narcan to help prevent opioid poisonings. Have questions? Juniper House will be closed for a staff holiday on Monday, July 13. We will reopen for our normal hours 9am on Tuesday morning, July 14.

Hi folks! We will be having our beading circle here at Juniper House on Thursday, July 9th, 1:30pm-4:00pm. The circle is open to all Indigenous students at Memorial University and all skill levels are welcome. Unlike a beading workshop, where the goal is to teach participants how to bead, the purpose of the beading circle is simply to gather and bead together. Bring your own project, or avail of our supplies. We will have beads and some designs on hand to get you started if desired.

There will be an experienced beader present to help troubleshoot projects and to teach anyone who does not yet know how to bead if needed.

Please share to help find a new Indigenous artist to lead the next iteration of the Indigenous community art wall! To students who worked on the existing mural - when the space was identified the intention was for a new installation every 1-2 years. However, we have realized that in practice that was a challenging approach. Canvas of Belonging had a 3 year run, but was not sealed against the elements. The next installation will be sealed and we hope will last for at least 10 years. Stay tuned for updates on when we will hold an Indigenous student planning session!

Memorial University is seeking an Indigenous artist to lead the development of a community-centred mural in the Rose Garden on the St. John's campus.

Created in collaboration with Indigenous students and the Office of Indigenous Affairs, the mural will reflect community voices and invite members of the Memorial University community to participate in bringing the artwork to life.
