The Fisheries and Marine Institute, Memorial University Represents in Saint-Pierre & Miquelon at the International Congress on Aquatic Sciences - Strengthening International Connections Through Marine Science 🫱🏼🫲🏼
🌎At this year’s 6th International Congress on Aquatic Sciences, The Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University was proud to participate in a growing international partnership focused on engaging young people in marine science and technology. This year, Newfoundland and Labrador was the featured region of honor.
🐟Our team delivered presentations on a range of topics, including ROV-MATE competitions, Nutraceutical production from by-products, the Placentia Bay coastal restoration project, Marine Institute programs, NL and Canadian Aquaculture, fisheries environments in the North Atlantic and cold-water coral research.
🪸The week allows for interaction with marine biologists, scientists from other fields, community members, fish harvesters and various levels of government. The group spent all week together and participated in scientific presentations, community outreach, workshops at the local junior high and high school, as well as a field trip to the Miquelon, observing the ongoing ecosystem research and restoration efforts in the Grand Barachois. All of this, made possible by enthusiastic support from the government of the archipelago!.
