🎉 We’re excited to announce our new partnership with Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU)!

Through our 𝘗𝘶𝘮𝘱𝘦𝘥 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘗𝘰𝘴𝘵-𝘚𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘳𝘺 (PFPS) program, students in Grades 9–12 will meet weekly with KPU student mentors at the Surrey campus. They’ll explore campus life, learn about post-secondary options and resources, and get support as they think about their next steps.

As Dr. Diane Purvey, KPU President and Vice-Chancellor, pro tem, shared:

Meet Kaitlyn, a Fashion Marketing student at Wilson School of Design and a recipient of the Joy Mauro Turnabout Award.

Kaitlyn is studying what she is truly passionate about and gaining the skills and experiences that will help her build a career in fashion and marketing. Support from donors makes it possible for her to keep working toward her goals, from finishing her diploma to pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing Management.

Your September news recap is here! 🎬

This month, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, KPU held its Reconciliation Flag Raising Ceremony at the Surrey campus. The event honoured Indigenous peoples while creating space for reflection.

You will also learn that a bog beneath open fields has been drawing carbon from the atmosphere for thousands of years, and that Dr. Michael Bomford will develop a plan to restore and manage bogs in a way that protects biodiversity and supports Indigenous traditions. 🌱

For students interested in research, you will see how a mix of parasitoid wasps, nematodes and fungi can protect B.C. vineyards from a damaging pest, with several KPU students gaining hands-on experience in the lab and the field as part of the research team. 🍇

Today, we pause to honour Survivors, their families, and their communities, and to remember the children who never returned home from residential schools.

At KPU, we recognize the deep and lasting impact of residential schools on Indigenous communities across Canada. We stand in solidarity with Indigenous peoples, reflecting on the past and committing to building a future rooted in respect, understanding, and genuine reconciliation.

This day is a reminder of the work we must continue by listening, learning, and taking action toward reconciliation.

At KPU, the classroom doesn't always have four walls. For some students, it's an eight-hectare farm. 🌱

🌾 A new $251,000 grant from TD is turning KPU Farm into an even richer place to learn, with new spaces like an Indigenous Medicine Garden guided by the Musqueam First Nation and a Traditional Chinese Medicine Garden, plus hundreds of native plants from over 60 species.

For students in the Bachelor of Applied Science in Sustainable Agriculture, it means studying regenerative agriculture, culture and community, all growing in the same soil. 🌍
