Interested in studying Law? ⚖️

Join us online to learn about law school programs, admissions and law practice from TRU, UBC and UVIC representatives.

The Law School Forum is a half-day event held annually at KPU that brings together KPU students, faculty and representatives from British Columbia’s law schools to share information about obtaining a legal education and pursuing a career in law. Presentations address the admission criteria, application processes and program features of British Columbia’s law schools.

The 2026 KPU Law School Forum is being hosted online on Tuesday, November 10th, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. Hear from alum speaker, Kulvir Toor, Class of 2022, about her journey from KPU to law school and beyond as well as representatives from British Columbia’s law schools. KPU Arts Speaker Series

Iran War and Fascism

Join us Monday, October 26, from 12:00–1:00 pm (online) for a dynamic presentation by Sara Naderi, Sociology Professor, on the Iran War and Fascism.

This talk examines the Iranian far-right movement and the model of political subjectivity it produces and prescribes for Global South subjects in relation to domestic and global political orders. Emerging inside Iran and across its diaspora, the movement gained momentum during the 2026 protest movement and the U.S.-Israeli war against Iran, when opposition to domestic dictatorship became entangled with the neocolonial fantasy of liberation through—or rescue by—the Western war apparatus. I argue that this discourse fosters a self-infantilized political subjectivity: one that imagines Western military power as an external savior while diminishing Iranians’ capacity to act as agents of their own liberation. After outlining the movement’s context and principal actors, I develop working definitions of the far right, fascism, and fascistic subjectivity. I then compare the Iranian case with twentieth-century fascism and the contemporary North American far right. Finally, I examine how Iran’s semi-colonial history and dominant self-Orientalist discourse shape the movement’s distinctive features and its discursive and political convergences with, and divergences from, its North American counterparts.
