Always a highlight of the year, and one of the things I love best about our department is this flagship lecture series that always delivers on the intersection between great scholarship and the community. I'll get this right eventually ... Another fascinating project. The internship has been a great way for students to connect their passion for their own communities with their research interests. It's been a springboard for many to go on and pursue further work and careers, and at the same time, leaving resources that will be useful to other historians and researchers of all stripes.

Sorry if this repeats, but CBU HIST is very proud of our students, and the amazing work that they do through the internship program at The Beaton Institute. Kima's work is fascinating. Morrison's Store wasn't just the hub of commerce in St Peters, it was the repository of records for Conservative Party, the home of some of the records of the local 'Indian Agent' for a span, the repository for the School Board records, a kind of bank, and a centre of community life. The documents here will keep a lot of scholars and interested historians busy for a long time!

The CBU Historical Society is looking for new people in leadership roles. You do NOT have to be a HIST Major, you just have to enjoy HIST. In addition to looking great as a leadership role on a CV or resume, this society is a lot of fun. Please consider applying!

History is a living thing. It binds and connects us when we share a connection to it. It’s also a big part of how we make an ‘us’, and how others see ‘us’. I present to you an anthropological gaze on the chip wagon.

You can get french fries at any number of fast-food chains and diners. But there's something about fries from a chip truck. Mike and Marielle Yorke’s fryer on wheels — the Glace Bay Chip Truck — and its 80-year tradition of hand-cut fries is a Cape Breton institution. Holly Conners’ document...
