The Ontario College of Family Physicians has honoured NOSM University Associate Professor Dr. Ed Hirvi as 2026 Regional Family Physician of the Year! 🌟

The award recognizes Dr. Hirvi's exemplary care for his patients and passionate involvement in activities that contribute to excellence in family medicine.

“Receiving the Family Physician of the Year Award for my region is a true honour and one I accept with deep gratitude. I feel fortunate to care for my patients and be part of the medical training journey of so many learners. I share this recognition with the patients, families, colleagues, and community who make this work so meaningful,” Dr. Hirvi says.

🎉 Congratulations to Associate Professor Dr. Andreas Kumar, his colleague Dr. Rohan Dharmakumar at Indiana University, and their research teams! Their innovative work on Acute Myocardial Infarction—better known as heart attacks—has led to a new globally accepted standard. 🫀

A Canadian Cardiovascular Society Classification of Acute Myocardial Infarction based on their research was recently adopted internationally during the European Society of Cardiology Congress in Munich.

This marks a proud moment for Canadian cardiovascular research and NOSM University faculty!

A proud moment for Canadian cardiovascular research! We welcome the adoption of the Canadian-developed CCS Classification of Acute Myocardial Infarction ( ), which has effectively been elevated to the global stage and has now become an international standard.
The CCS-AMI classification described for the first time acute myocardial infarction, commonly known as heart attack, as a disease presenting with four sequential stages of increasing tissue injury.
