Lakehead undergraduate student Mateo Velasco Alva recently travelled to New York to help lead a global Model UN conference, bringing together more than 2,000 students from around the world.

He spent the week moderating debates on climate change and plastic pollution, working with international delegates, and getting a behind the scenes look at diplomacy.

Pretty cool stuff, Mateo. 👏

From improving fire safety in mass timber buildings to protecting biodiversity in northwestern Ontario's forests, this research is driving real world solutions while creating opportunities for students to learn alongside leading researchers.
