The Black Student Orientation Coordinator (BSOC) will be responsible for developing and implementing joint welcome / orientation day(s) for new Black students at the University of Toronto, and is organized by Innis, New, University, and Woodsworth Colleges. This programming will complement existing College and University-wide student orientations and provide an additional opportunity for students to further enhance their sense of belonging on campus. The BSOC will lead a collaborative, intercollegiate team of student leaders and partner with relevant campus resources and student organizations.
Qualifications
🔸Currently an undergraduate student at the University of Toronto, or did undergraduate studies at the University of Toronto
🔸Experience planning and executing events and programs for students
🔸Experience with event marketing and various digital media platforms and tools
🔸Experience leading and collaborating well with other students and staff
🔸Experience working within and across diverse communities, cultures, and contexts
🔸Understanding of systems of oppression whether through lived experience, theoretical work, or both
🔸Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative, and achieve established goals
🔸Demonstrated ability to organize work, establish priorities, and meet deadlines while negotiating emergent needs. A high degree of flexibility and adaptability is required
🔸Excellent interpersonal skills, initiative, and time management
🔸Good understanding of campus resources and supports for students
🔸Black students familiar with the College student experience preferred
Under the direction and guidance of the Assistant to the Dean, Student Life and Leadership at New College, the incumbent will be:
🔹Assisting with the planning and running of orientation events and programs for incoming undergraduate Black students
🔹Supporting the design and ex*****on of marketing and communication efforts, including creating Instagram posts and using Canva for content creation
🔹Supporting the collaboration of orientation events that include Black student groups, campus resources, and other stakeholders
🔹Assisting with space bookings, A/V needs, and other program logistics
🔹Assisting with leading and collaborating with a team of other student leaders
🔹Booking and supporting a meetings with a team of five Black Student Orientation Executives and other partners

⭐️Number of Positions: 1 position available
⭐️Term of Employment: May 15 – September 30, 2023
⭐️Hours of Work: 20-25 hours / week during regular business hours (~9am-5pm).
⭐️Some evening and weekend work required. Must be available to work in person on campus.
⭐️Hourly Rate: $22.47
