A journey home 🧡

From learning what fills our hearts with happiness, to confronting what residential schools took from Indigenous children, to considering how each of us can contribute to reconciliation, rocks travelled alongside our community throughout National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

One of 215+ orange rocks travelled through our Every Child Deserves a Heart Filled with Happiness interactive experience before finding its way to the wiigiwaam, symbolizing the children who were taken from their families and communities returning home.

Join the Guelph-Humber community on September 30th in the Atrium for “Every Child Deserves a Heart Filled with Happiness”, an interactive experience centred on learning, reflection, and action.

• Paint a rock in remembrance of a child who never returned home from residential school and bring it to the wiigiwaam in the Arboretum
• Create your own ReconciliACTION passport to commit to Truth and Reconciliation
• Visit the library pop-up and explore titles by Indigenous authors

Take time to learn, reflect and consider how you can take meaningful action toward reconciliation.

The University of Guelph-Humber's Justice Studies program is entering a new era.

With a revamped curriculum and new innovative spaces, the program is evolving to match the needs of expanding career paths and the communities that justice professionals serve.

There are even more course options available in crime analysis, advanced investigations, and the law, along with more paid work-integrated learning opportunities. Students can learn about drone technologies, cybercrime prevention, alternative dispute resolution, and more.

Plus, a new mock courtroom and a “Crime Lab” are now open.

Headset on, reality altered.

Media & Communication Studies students at the University of Guelph-Humber are learning to become immersive storytellers by harnessing the power of extended reality (XR) in the New World: Exploring XR course.

Students Sophia Barcellona, Shannon Coady, Valentina Mikhailov, and Avery Patterson from the Winter 2026 session achieved a significant milestone when their class project – “Somnia – Do Students Dream of Overdue Sheep?” – was selected and showcased at the Festival of International Virtual and Augmented Reality Stories in Toronto.

“There's a difference between what can be portrayed through a flat, normal video and a 360 [degree] video,” Coady said.

Students can access VR headsets and cameras to create content at the Technology Resource Centre, located at GH320.
