September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day (Every Child Matters). Schulich ExecEd joins York University and the Schulich School of Business in honouring Residential School Survivors, their families, and the children who never returned home.

Orange Shirt Day began as a grassroots initiative and has grown into a nationally recognized movement. Each year, individuals, organizations, and communities across Canada take part in acts of remembrance, reflection, and reconciliation. The orange shirt symbolizes the loss of culture, freedom, and self-esteem that many Indigenous children experienced, and it serves as a powerful reminder of the lasting impacts of the Residential School system. Every Child Matters.

Reconciliation is not a one-day event. It is a shared, continuous responsibility for all Canadians.
