There’s something special about summer mornings at Knox. ☀️

Sunlight spills across quiet pathways. Familiar spaces sit still. The campus feels paused, holding space before a new season begins.

Soon, those quiet corners will fill with conversation, learning, and community. We’re looking forward to welcoming new and returning students and beginning another year together this September.

Knox College has a new Director of Library Services! Dorothy Gebert recently joined the Caven Library, where she plans to provide the best resources and services to students to help them be successful in their studies. She holds a BA in English from McMaster University, a Master of Library & Information Studies (MLIS) from Western University, and an MA in Academic Writing & Research from Coventry University.

Dorothy worked at various public libraries in Ontario before taking a detour for several years into marketing, communications, and media work. She then brought her public relations skills back to libraries and was most recently Library Director at Columbia Bible College in Abbotsford, BC. Dorothy is thrilled to join the Caven Library and is looking forward to engaging proactively with the Knox community.

Earlier this year, a group of Master of Divinity students in the Practicum in Mission course at Knox College embarked on a Canadian Immersive Trip, reimagining experiential learning and preparing future ministry leaders to engage with the realities of a changing Canada.

From urban and rural ministry to Indigenous relations, intercultural communities, emerging ministry models, and more, students took part in a week-long immersive experience that challenged them to listen, learn, and respond to God’s call in new contexts.

New this week in our Picture Books in Ministry Collection:

Around the Circle: Celebrating the Church Year by Laura Alary and Claire Westwood (Beaming Books)

Around the Circle is a lyrical overview of the liturgical year for young children. Season by season, rich colours and meaningful symbols help young readers get to know these special times, how they connect to the story of Jesus, and to their own lives. In the circle of the churchy year, and in the circle of belonging formed by those who follow this sacred path, there is room for all.

Here are some ideas for putting the book to use in your congregation:

⭐️ Read it aloud in worship at the start of the year or each new season
⭐️ Make it part of an online story time (bedtime blessings) for young families
⭐️ Give copies to families on the occasion of their child's baptism
⭐️ Put multiple copies in the pews for children and parents to look at in worship
⭐️ Make the book part of a congregational event about the liturgical year
⭐️ Add it to the church lending library, if you have one
⭐️ Read it aloud with children and listen to what they notice and wonder about
⭐️ Make a large circle of the church year and display it in the sanctuary
⭐️ Host an event where families make their own calendar to take home
⭐️ Invite people to share stories and memories about their own special times
