TLDR: Conducting an online survey to better understand problem gaming in the context of MMORPGs. Looking for adults that spend at least 20 hours or more per week playing MMORPGs.
--
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: This research looks at the psychological differences between players who do not experience problems related to gaming versus players who do experience problems related to gaming. I am especially interested in examining what these differences look like within groups of players who spend significant amounts of time playing MMORPGs. Understanding how these factors work can help inform how the field of psychology approaches treatments and assessments for problem gaming moving forward.
METHOD: Online survey. Questions in the survey will ask you about your gaming and nongaming interests as well as your psychological well-being.
Below is the ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA for this survey. If you meet ALL of these characteristics, would you be open to participating in this study?
🟢 spend 20 hours or more per week, on average, playing MMORPGs
🟢 be at least 18 years old
🟢 and be proficient in English (the survey is written in English)
On average, it takes people anywhere between 30-60 minutes to complete the survey.

***Please note that, because this survey is part of a study on problem gaming, it does ask several questions designed to assess whether problems related to gaming are present in your life. This is not to say that gaming is inherently problematic. These questions are included in the survey because they help us identify those who experience problem gaming versus those who do not.***
