Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Mitochondrial Turnover in Muscle
The Muscle Health Research Centre (MHRC) at York University in Toronto, Canada invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Mitochondrial Turnover in Muscle in the laboratory of David A Hood, PhD. The MHRC is an internationally recognized research centre focusing on skeletal and cardiac muscle metabolism, development, vascular support and adaptations to exercise.

The Hood lab research program is devoted to understanding the molecular mechanisms that govern the synthesis (biogenesis) and degradation (mitophagy) of mitochondria in skeletal muscle in health and disease. Research projects include: identification of transcription factors that regulate biogenesis and mitophagy in response to exercise, retrograde signaling from mitochondria to the nucleus to control mitochondrial health and the unfolded protein response, the regulation of mitochondrial and lysosomal biogenesis and function in aging muscle, and the effect of muscle disuse on mitophagy signaling and flux. Studies are conducted using a variety of rodent animal models, as well as healthy and diseased muscle and fibroblast cells in culture. The position offers the opportunity to gain technical experience in muscle and mitochondrial function, cell culture, animal models, gene expression, confocal microscopy and protein analyses.

Candidates should have completed, or be in the process of finishing a Ph.D degree. Experience in molecular biology and knowledge of muscle/exercise biology are desirable. This position will remain open until filled, and is for one year with the possibility of renewal. Salary is commensurate with experience based on Canadian grant funding guidelines.
