University College alumni are leaders in a wide variety of fields, and they return to the College to help students make the transition from school to the working world. Students, faculty, staff, and alumni at UC work together to ensure that all thrive. At UC, not only do you shape your education, you help shape our community. Meet Laleh Bighash, BSc 1993 UC, a 2019 Alumni of Influence recipient.

Laleh is President and Dean of Scientific Affairs at the Academy of Applied Pharmaceutical Science, a private postgraduate college that she launched in 2003. More than 2000 graduates from its two campuses have been placed in positions in the food and pharma/biopharma and medical devices industries.

Nominations for the Alumni of Influence awards are open! 🎉

Past recipient Bonnie Fuller (BA 1977 UC) is a great example of the impact our alumni have. A Toronto native, she became Editor in Chief of Flare before moving to New York, where she led YM, launched American Marie Claire, revitalized Cosmopolitan and Glamour and created Us Weekly. She went on to found HollywoodLife.com as its CEO and is now a special correspondent for politics and reproductive healthcare at Courier Newsroom.
The awards recognize alumni for their achievements and contributions to the College, the University of Toronto and their communities. This year we're introducing a new Lifetime Achievement Award alongside the Alumni of Influence and Young Alumni of Influence awards. Nominations close November 16.

University College is now accepting nominations for the 2027 Alumni of Influence awards!
AOI celebrates UC graduates who have made a meaningful difference in their fields and communities. This year we're proud to introduce a new award category: the Alumni of Influence Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing an alum whose contributions have had a lasting impact over the course of their career.

Congratulations to University College alumnus Jacob Tsimerman (BSc 2006), recipient of the 2026 Fields Medal, one of the highest honours in mathematics. ✨

Jacob began taking courses at U of T while still in high school and completed his undergraduate degree in mathematics in just two years. Today, he is a celebrated professor in the Department of Mathematics, known for his dedication to students and the mathematical community.

The honour carries special significance for University College. The Fields Medal was established by renowned mathematician J.C. Fields (BA 1884 UC), a U of T professor whose vision helped create what is now considered the "Nobel Prize of mathematics."

We are proud to have been part of both Jacob's and J.C. Fields' journeys. 💙

Last month’s Alumni Reunion brought generations together for a day full of joy, laughter, and a few animal friends along the way.

The Kids' Passport program gave our youngest guests their own adventure, moving from station to station and discovering something new at every stop. Learning about animals at our station was a highlight for many, with little ones lighting up at every encounter.

It was a beautiful reminder of what reunion is all about: family, community, and making memories that last.

Thank you to everyone who joined us. We can't wait to do it again.

The shop is open all summer, so there is no need to wait until fall to browse. And if you have books at home looking for a new home, we are accepting donations now through August 3 for the UC Book Sale.

UC remembers Charles Haskell Dolman, K.C.
We are saddened to share the passing of Charles "Chuck" Dolman, K.C., UC 1956, on June 22, 2026, at the age of 92. A distinguished real estate lawyer and lifelong sports fan, Chuck was, above all, a devoted family man whose warmth and humor touched everyone who knew him.
Our thoughts are with his partner Lola, his children, grandchildren, and all who loved him.

We recently had the pleasure of celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Class of '76 at Alumni Reunion. Sarran J. Bhola (BSc 1976 UC) sent us these wonderful photos from his time at University College, a glimpse into UC life half a century ago.

Happy Pride! 🏳️‍🌈

This Pride, we reflect on an important moment in University College’s history. In November 1969, a small group of 15 men and one woman met at UC to form the University of Toronto Homophile Association. This became the first gay and le***an student group on any Canadian university campus.

Their courage helped build a sense of community and challenge discrimination, leaving a lasting impact that continues to shape U of T and beyond.

Today, we’re proud to celebrate that legacy and stand with our 2SLGBTQ+ students, alumni, faculty, staff and librarians. Wishing everyone a safe, joyful, and vibrant Pride. 🌈
