Alpha Gamma Delta was officially founded on May 30, 1904 at the home of Dr. Wellesley Perry Coddington, a professor at Syracuse University who was instrumental in the early development of Alpha Gamma Delta. Alpha Gamma Delta was founded with the intent for it to become a National Women's Fraternity rather than a local group or literary society. Each of the Fraternity’s 11 founders were progressive women who selflessly contributed to the foundation and growth of Alpha Gamma Delta. Since the founding, collegiate chapters have been installed at more than 180 colleges and universities across North America and more than 155,000 women have become Alpha Gam sisters. Tau Chapter was installed by Emily Helen Butterfield, one of the Founders of Alpha Gamma Delta, on March 7, 1919! It was the first Canadian Alpha Gam chapter, and now total Tau Chapter membership exceeds 1,200! Guided by the Alpha Gamma Delta Purpose, Alpha Gamma Deltas strive to attain a higher standard, thereby improving their lives, the lives of those around them and the communities in which they live. Together, we continually work to inspire the woman and impact the world.

Meet Alpha Gamma Delta’s Fall PC ‘26!

Meet Amélie:
“My name is Amélie and I chose AGD because the second I walked through the doors during round 2, I knew I wanted to spend the next four years with these girls. I couldn’t be happier that we chose each other!”

Meet Emily:
“When I first entered the AGD house, I felt welcomed by everyone and really enjoyed the conversations I had with the girls I met. It felt very easy to imagine myself being apart of Alpha Gam, and that’s why I chose them ❤️”

Meet Abbie:
“Hiii I’m Abbie! I chose AGD because I instantly felt so welcomed and comfortable around the girls. I loved the energy and sense of sisterhood that AGD has brought to me and I can’t wait to start my journey with them!!”
