Alpha Gamma Delta was officially founded on May 30, 1904 at the home of Dr. Wellesley Perry Coddington, a professor at Syracuse University who was instrumental in the early development of Alpha Gamma Delta. Alpha Gamma Delta was founded with the intent for it to become a National Women's Fraternity rather than a local group or literary society. Each of the Fraternity’s 11 founders were progressive

women who selflessly contributed to the foundation and growth of Alpha Gamma Delta. Since the founding, collegiate chapters have been installed at more than 180 colleges and universities across North America and more than 155,000 women have become Alpha Gam sisters. Tau Chapter was installed by Emily Helen Butterfield, one of the Founders of Alpha Gamma Delta, on March 7, 1919! It was the first Canadian Alpha Gam chapter, and now total Tau Chapter membership exceeds 1,200! Guided by the Alpha Gamma Delta Purpose, Alpha Gamma Deltas strive to attain a higher standard, thereby improving their lives, the lives of those around them and the communities in which they live. Together, we continually work to inspire the woman and impact the world.

Meet Our Execs: for this week’s focus, we’re turning to our Vp New Member Experience.

Here’s what Athena has to say to all the PNMs of this fall’s recruitment season: “As VP New Member Experience, my role is to oversee and lead the on-boarding and education of our new members! I also get to plan fun things such as big-little/speed dating events & reveal, organize the sister-mothers and daughters, create new member sisterhood events and retreat, and be there for our new members to flourish in becoming an active!

To future PNMs, recruitment is less scary than you think! Once you go through the process and find your forever home, you can always ensure someone will always there for you. With my job, that person is me! 🩷”

Athena had the opportunity to visit our Alpha Gam chapters in the United States and meet with several of our international sisters at this year’s Empower!

To sum up her wonderful experience, Athena says: “At Empower, I had the opportunity to further connect with other sisters across 70 different chapters in US/Canada through aspects of leadership and programming generously funded by the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation. I enjoyed learning about their programming, but also learning about other chapters. It was such a great opportunity as I got to travel to Indiana University and stay at the Alpha Gam Beta Delta chapter house to connect and finish the goal of the institute, which is the capstone project!! Overall, such a great experience to connect with 100 other sisters, ranging from actives to alumni to IHQ!”

Meet Our Execs: this week the focus is on Alpha Gam’s VP Finance and Property!!

Our lovely Farah, VP Finance, has this to say about her position behind the scenes: “Being VP Finance has been such a rewarding experience because I get to help support our chapter behind the scenes and make sure our goals come to life! I’ve loved being able to give back to a sisterhood that means so much to me 💗”

And our fabulous VP Property, Zyna, who keeps the Alpha Gam house running says this: “As VP of Property, keeping our house running smoothly is a chaotic but incredibly rewarding balancing act. It’s a proud feeling to be the go-to person ensuring our chapter house is a safe, welcoming home. Ultimately, knowing my behind-the-scenes problem-solving directly shapes the daily comfort and memories of my sisters makes every bit of effort worth it.”

These two girls are foundational to Alpha Gam! So much love!!
