DG 8111 - Digital Innovation X Emotion Garden

What if you could simply speak your mind to clear your head where nothing is saved, tracked, or judged?

Meet Emotion Garden. An ephemeral, web-based 3D immersive space, Emotion Garden is a private place where users can express their thoughts through audio recording, text journal, or real-time speech-to-text transcription. As users “let it out”, the virtual garden grows in response to users’ feelings - a visual validation of being heard. Built on a strict "Say it and Forget it" mantra, once you close your browser, your private thoughts vanish completely and no data is saved. Users can choose to keep their “feelings sessions” private or share them anonymously to the community board to foster peer connection without the toxic pressures of traditional social media
Developed for DG8111: Digital Innovations in the Master of Digital Media program, our team first conceptualized the idea based on the notion that university life often brings overwhelming pressure (and our team is no exception). And yet, many of us hesitate to seek help due to privacy concerns and simply the fear of being judged. We realized that sometimes, people don't need a formal appointment - they just need a safe place to unload and process their feelings, and sometimes that’s more than enough. 🤖🌷🪏🌻🧘

The Emotion Garden Project is designed with ❤ by: Alaa El-Banna, Viola Hernandez, Ifrah Usmani, Max Jayzeh Al-Hallak

AI Usage Statement (IG): Gemini AI was used to refine the copywriting and structure of this caption, ensuring brevity and tone. AI tools were also used for the conceptual prototyping of the Emotion Garden platform.

DG 8111 - Digital Innovation X Sprint Team

Looking for a place to study, work, or meet near TMU?

Creative Student Survival Guide is a DG8111 project created by Spring Team to help creative and digital media graduate students find useful resources, events, and opportunities more easily. Our project responds to a common challenge: students often need to search across emails, websites, Instagram, newsletters, classmates, and word-of-mouth to find relevant information. This makes it easy to miss useful spaces, events, workshops, and campus resources. This carousel highlights study and work spots near TMU, including the TMU Library, Library Group Study Rooms, and the Student Learning Centre.

These spaces support different student needs, from quiet focus to team projects and flexible creative work. Explore the Creative Student Survival Guide for more student resources, study spots, events, and creative project tips.

DG 8111 - Digital Innovation X CSport

What if experiencing sports culture didn’t depend on whether you could afford a stadium ticket?

For DG8111: Digital Innovations, Team Pixel Press explored this challenge:
How might we help sports fans feel fully connected to the culture and community of live sports without needing to attend or pay full price—while helping local venues and creators benefit from that connection?

Our answer became CSport: a digital platform bringing together fan-created content, local event and venue discovery, booking, and sports merchandise in one experience. But CSport didn’t start there. Our original concept focused on sports vlog content. Through research, persona development, prototyping and user feedback, we identified a larger opportunity: fans were piecing together their sports experience across multiple platforms while local venues struggled to reach people actively looking for somewhere to watch. That insight transformed the project from a content concept into a two-sided platform. Testing reinforced the value of an all-in-one experience, particularly local event discovery, fan-generated content and merchandise. It also gave us our next design priorities: deeper personalization, interaction and community features.

We also developed the business behind the experience. Rather than placing the burden on fans, our proposed model keeps access free while monetizing through venue listings, brand activations, sponsorships and transaction commissions.

CSport isn't trying to replace the stadium. It's designing for everything that happens around it.

What if a physical ID served as an interactive bridge to your digital identity? 💳

Created for DG8010 (AR/VR), MDM student Ryan Boyd’s project "Starkeep Academy: Hero ID" uses WebAR technology to transform physical credentials into 3D experiences 🚀

By scanning a QR code and pointing a smartphone camera at a TMU student ID, the interface overlays sci-fi branding, active courses, personal credentials, and an interactive 3D avatar

Built using KiviCube, Figma, and generative AI tools, the prototype showcases the future of interactive portfolio design ✨

DG 8111 - Digital Innovation X Hotline 416

New to Toronto? What if one magazine could help you discover the city while bringing its pages to life through AR?

Hotline 416 is a Y2K-inspired summer lifestyle magazine created for Gen Z newcomers to Toronto. More than just a magazine, it's an interactive city guide that helps readers adjust to life in a new city by recommending places to eat, attractions to visit, books to read, and summer activities to try. Using EyeJack AR technology, readers can scan selected pages to unlock videos and interactive content, transforming a traditional magazine into an immersive multimedia experience.

Research shows that Gen Z experiences increasing digital fatigue and information overload from endless algorithm-driven feeds. Our project responds by replacing infinite scrolling with a curated, structured reading experience that gives users control over how they explore content while making local information more engaging and accessible.

What does it mean for a digital system to "know" who you are?

For his Master of Digital Media Major Research Project, "I Made This for You," Nathan Scott deconstructs TikTok’s For You Page into an interactive gallery installation at Charles Street Video.

Using TouchDesigner, Python, and a Microsoft Kinect camera, Nathan built an "algorithmic mirror" that transforms visitor movements into a live feed composed of TikTok videos 🎥.

By adjusting physical category sliders, guests could test whether an algorithmic feed could construct a faithful reflection of human identity 🎛️.

DG8111 - Digital Innovation X Team Gaze Pack - FooCo

Would you pay more than $26 for a blind box? The answer is no, as we surveyed over 15 potential customers. That's why we - Gaze Pack completely changed production strategy overnight for FooCo!

For a DG8111 Digital Innovations project at MDM, we pressure-tested FooCo against real market forces using DesignAgility's Challenge Radar.
FooCo is a multicultural blind-box collectible toy where every unlock reveals a real recipe tied to its culture of origin, turning a collectible into a doorway for cultural discovery.

To honor our $10–$26 target price point without sacrificing detail, we ditched expensive offshore tooling for agile local 3D printing. We closed the cost gap ourselves so collectors can discover, cook, and collect without breaking the bank.
Which recipe are you trying to collect first? Let us know in the comments!

And shoutout to the Gaze Pack team: .grugru , , , ,

AI Usage Statement
AI was used to help process our survey data into business direction and to support research during our pricing and production analysis. No AI was used in the art and design process. Including character design, packaging, branding, etc)
