Tickets are officially on sale for UC Follies’ Dramafest Production of “To the Promised Land” written by July Yanchun Hu, and co-directed by July Yanchun Hu and Erin Q. Hui. Premiering at Hart House on March 1st, UC Follies tickets are available at the linktree in our bio!

This play is set in a dystopian future wherein Western countries have successfully assimilated 95% of their recent immigrants into “ideal citizens,” namely skilled workers and “high potential individuals” who contribute to the nation-building project without occupying any “irrelevant social resources.” Immigrants’ high (and continuously growing) levels of social integration have brought the host countries one economic boon after another; however, Western societies are facing the threat of “cultural diversity deprivations” as a result of heightened acculturation policies. Responding to the fall of cultural diversity, the Promise Land initiated and launched a new immigration program, “Contribute a Verse: Cultural Entry Program.” Through this new program, immigrants are selected by their capabilities to maintain “culturally distinctive” and act beneficial for building the host country a positive image of “being the global leader in diversity and inclusivity.”
