An honour to join the inaugural class of Prevention Link’s Level 6 Occupational Disease!

For far too many workers, exposure at work leads to life changing illness. When workers find themselves in this vulnerable situation, having trained advocates who can support them and help navigate the WSIB system is imperative - and this is where our WSIB courses and training are so invaluable!
The wealth of knowledge from Instructors Monia and Jody, in addition to strong worker advocates from several different unions in attendance was amazing. These workers are fighting for workers everyday - and winning.

Yesterday, we joined several advocates, allies and community partners at Queens Park in recognition of the second anniversary of the province's acknowledgment of Injured Workers Day.

Workers are advocating for full access to compensation and calling attention to the ongoing claims suppression. Meanwhile, the current government and WSIB continues to reward employers by allocating billions of dollars to employers in refunds instead of providing support to the workers in need.

Yesterday we commemorate the second anniversary of the province's acknowledgment of Injured Workers Day. For workers, injuries and illnesses sustained at work are tangible and ever-present. Although the government proposed Bill 105 to address numerous requests from workers and their supporting organizations, the bill has yet to be enacted, resulting in entire sectors of workers lacking access to WSIB, while those who do have access are experiencing financial difficulties. In 1919 the Workmen's Compensation Act was enacted. Often referred to as the great compromise, this system was established based on the Meredith Principle, wherein workers relinquished their right to sue their employers in return for assured no-fault compensation for workplace injuries. A century later, this compromise is under threat—workers are struggling for access to compensation, encountering claims suppression, and this government is backing the WSIB in issuing billions of dollars to employers instead of aiding the workers in need.

Over the years, corporate and organizational involvement, through lobbying, sponsorship, participation, etc., in Pride has increased dramatically. We need to take stock of this reality to assess whether the involvement is benefiting 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, as workers, as individuals, and as citizens. We have developed this Code of Conduct as a starting point to measure corporate and organizational responsibility to 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.

USW Local 6500 members have ratified a historic new collective agreement with Vale.

The agreement delivers significant gains for workers and their families, including guaranteed wage increases, a $4,000 signing bonus, paid sick days, pension improvements and enhanced benefits.

Congratulations to the bargaining committee and membership whose solidarity and determination helped secure these historic gains.

Today, thousands of workers, activists, and community allies took to the streets to demand that the Ford government cease its unprecedented privatization of Ontario's essential hospital services. The Ford government is pursuing the largest privatization of our public hospitals in the history of Ontario.
