Hey everyone! Now that the year is over, SMU will be holding elections for next year's executive committee. In the future we hope to continue to grow the LGBT+ community at St. Michael’s College. All positions are up for election and we encourage you to run!

Vote Kate for SMCSU President!

Here's just a bit of what she has to say.

"Hey St. Mikes United!

My involvement with the LGBTQ community consists of being a social media executive for GetREAL, a group dedicated to eliminating bullying and homophobia on campus. I have always been someone who advocates for equity, and always makes sure that people feel welcome.
Throughout my time on SMCSU, one of my main incentives that I tried to accomplish was get a Vice-President Equity position on council. The goal of this position is to ensure that St. Mike's is aware of any injustice that takes place around the college, making sure events are accessible and appropriate and finally ensuring that all students at USMC feel welcome. If elected, this is something that I would continue to try to make happen.

If elected President, I would love to collaborate with St. Mikes United. This year I was nothing but supportive in the club recognition process, as having an LGBTQ club at St. Mikes is long overdue. I have nothing but respect and admiration for the club. My hope as president is that I can continue to make sure that all students at USMC feel welcome, advocate for a multi-faith room at the college and finally create a Vice-President Equity position."

This coming Monday November 20th is the Transgender Day of Remembrance. It is a day to memorialize those who have been murdered and suffered violence as a result of transphobia. Many crimes targeting this community have yet to be solved and the violence is ongoing. Join us in raising public awareness of hate crimes against transgender people and honouring the lives of those we have lost.
