Spring Convocation may be over, but we're still celebrating the incredible accomplishments of our grads. 💚

New College's Mouaid Alim crossed the stage on June 16, 2025, one of three siblings to graduate from this Spring with honours bachelor's degrees in computer science. He and his siblings, Rayan and Mogtaba, are using artificial intelligence to explore solutions in health care, equity and beyond.

🎓 Meet three of our NEW-est grads — Hannah, Ahsen, and Richter— whose time at and New College was shaped by passion, purpose, and impact.

🌳 Hannah Flores blended science and poetry to connect people with the environment, "getting to people's emotions is what gets people to care." Hannah's next chapter will take her to the Peruvian Amazon to study access to clean water and water-borne illnesses.

🌍 Ahsen Bhatti paired his degree with deep community involvement, earning recognition for his leadership and care, "my degree gave me the theoretical background, while my volunteer work gave me the practical background to understand the issues."

🏃‍♂️Richter Heintz took his triathlete mindset and entrepreneurial drive all the way to the Dean’s List and next, to Olympics Industries in Vancouver, "I've grown a lot as a person experiencing a new city, new university, and just being here has made me who I am today.”

And their journeys are just beginning. Explore their full stories and join us in celebrating the incredible Class of 2025 💚: https://www.newcollege.utoronto.ca/congratulations-graduates/

What's the recipe for connection and community? 🤔 For Niya Bajaj, a University of Toronto New College alum, it's a unique twist on a classic turkey dish that goes beyond flavours.

When Eric Kim, a food columnist for The New York Times, asked his Instagram followers for their favourite turkey recipes, Niya submitted her version of the Judy bird brine, sparking a meaningful exchange that inspired Eric to create his own take. A powerful reminder of how food can bring people together and build lasting community.

As we wrap up 2024, let’s reflect on the connections we’ve made and the moments that nourish us.

🌟 On International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we celebrate the importance of accessibility, inclusion, and justice.

At New College, we’re proud to highlight the incredible work of Associate Professor and Critical Studies in Equity and Solidarity Program Director, Anne McGuire, recipient of the University of Toronto's Arts & Science Teaching and Learning Fellowship as part of the 2024 A&S Outstanding Achievement Awards, on the development of a new course, Beyond Compliance: Embracing Disability Cultures of Access and Justice.

Grounded in disability cultural wisdom and justice, this course invites students to reimagine accessibility not as a standard to meet, but as an "ongoing responsive, and creative commitment to justice and our shared need to be and do more together."

Professor McGuire explains, “Accessibility is more than a checklist—it’s a political stance and a practice essential for inclusivity and justice. How we build our worlds tells a story of who belongs and what matters.”

Today, and every day, let’s reflect on how access and justice can shape a better, more inclusive future for all. 💙
