Canada and the U.S., Interrupted! Journalists on the Front Lines
The once-reliable relationship between Canada and the United States is under strain. As leaders on both sides of the border navigate this new reality, journalists are working to counter mis- and disinformation with evidence-based reporting and analysis.

Join us at Massey College on Friday, September 25, from 4–5:30 p.m. for a timely dialogue with David Walmsley, Editor-in-Chief of The Globe and Mail; Matina Stevis-Gridneff, Canada bureau chief for The New York Times; Dr. Marci Shore, American historian and professor at the Munk School of Global Affairs; and moderator Anne-Marie Fowler.

The dialogue precedes a High Table celebrating journalism and the 2026–27 William Southam Journalism Fellows. Proceeds support the William Southam Journalism Program.

Throughout the summer, the Public Goods Café is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Junior Common Room (JCR), offering a selection of hot and cold beverages as well as freshly baked goods.

Please note that there may be occasional closures (such as this Friday). Any changes to operating hours will be communicated through our social media channels.

When public events, such as major soccer matches, are taking place, we will also strive to host community viewing parties in the JCR.

The JCR is intended to be a welcoming, casual gathering space for the Massey community, so we encourage you to stop by, relax, and enjoy the space throughout the summer.

Author Suzanne Simard joined Dr. James Orbinski at Massey College for the Ramsay/Massey Breakfast, where they discussed her new book, When the Forest Breathes: Renewal and Resilience in the Natural World. Drawing on decades of groundbreaking research, Simard reflected on how her work has transformed our understanding of forests as interconnected living systems, linked through networks of trees, fungi, and soil. In conversation with Dr. Orbinski, she explored themes of cooperation, resilience, and renewal in nature, emphasizing how these hidden relationships sustain forest ecosystems and offer lessons for the broader world. A wonderful afternoon at Massey College celebrating the launch of Carve → Print → Colour → Cover at the Robertson Davies Library

This event was a collaboration between the Massey Arts Society and the Robertson Davies Library. The exhibition highlights the remarkable work of Bascove and her iconic book covers for Robertson Davies, bringing together art, literature, and the craft of the book in a compelling way

Guests enjoyed a lively and welcoming atmosphere and clearly had fun mingling over drinks and refreshments. We were so pleasantly surprised to have among our guests Douglas Gibson, Robertson Davies’s editor, who is also a Massey quadrangler.

Many thanks to curator Sara Fackrell for her thoughtful vision and for sharing insights into the making of the exhibition and to all who joined us this afternoon.
