York University Staff Association represents over 2,500 workers at York University in Toronto, Canada.

YUSAPUY (York University Staff Association - Association du Personnel de L'Universite York) represents thousands of workers at York University in Toronto, Ontario. The union was founded on December 10, 1975, exactly 27 years after the United Nations established the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. We achieved our first contract a year later in 1976, and throughout our history, have proudly represented the interests of workers on campus. YUSAPUY believes that all working people, regardless of race, gender, age, sexual orientation, nationality or religion, deserve greater security, respect and fairness on the job. YUSAPUY is a member of the Confederation of Canadian Unions, which strives to bring working people and independent unions together to establish more equitable and democratic workplaces throughout the country.

The Federal Government’s Bill C-39 proposes alarming changes to Section 107 of the Canada Labour Code. If passed, it would grant the Minister of Labour unprecedented, broad powers to unilaterally end legal strikes, enforce interim contract extensions, and impose binding arbitration based on broad criteria like “economic impact” or “social disruption.”

We, the undersigned, call on workers, union members, and supporters across Canada to stand together and demand the immediate removal of proposed restrictions on the right to strike in Bill C-39.

On September 30th, the York University Staff Association (YUSA) stands in solemn reflection and solidarity with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities across Turtle Island to recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day.

This critical day honours the Survivors of Canada’s residential school system, the children who never returned home, and the families and communities enduring the ongoing intergenerational impacts of colonial violence. As we wear orange, we remember Phyllis Webstad’s story and commit to ensuring that Every Child Matters.

Come march with York University Staff Association (YUSA) at the Toronto Labour Day Parade on Monday, September 7

We will be gathering in SECTION 2 of the parade, located on the south side of Queen St. W. and in the southbound lane of University Ave. The meeting location is easily accessible from Osgoode Station.

Please arrive at our designated gathering spot by 8:45 AM. We will begin moving promptly at the designated 9:30 AM start time. It is important that everyone arrives on time so we have enough time to check in all participants, get organized, and be ready to march when the parade begins.

Please make sure you bring refillable water bottles (perfect time to show off your YUSA YETI mugs). See you there!
