On May 11, 2021, an open letter from Indigenous students was uploaded to the Yellowhead Institute website. Addressing decades of activism on Ryerson campus for reconciliation and Ryerson's feeble attempts to answer.

The letter calls on everyone, faculty, staff and students to remove the university’s current name from email signatures, CVs, and other professional communications and replace it with an X.

The campaign hopes to reframe the conversation, so indigenous peoples are no longer forced to debate our humanity.

Original post on Instagram
"ID: a dark burgundy red letter x with black shadows is in the foreground of the image with a Ryerson logo in the in background. The Ryerson name is in white on a blue rectangle in the middle of the photo with the yellow banding on the side. The Ryerson logo is upside down."

As Ryerson’s Standing Strong taskforce to “reconcile the history of Egerton Ryerson” begins to wrap up community engagement, Indigenous students at the University have written this open letter and call to action: Introducing X University.
