We caught up with Prof. Silva at the SPPA Awards Dinner where he spoke to us about the importance of getting involved amongst other things.

Prof. Joseph Silva is an experienced public servant and policy and finance leader. He has worked at the federal, provincial and municipal levels, and is currently the Treasurer for the City of Markham, one of Canada’s most dynamic and diverse communities.

He previously worked at the Regional Municipality of York, including as Director of Strategies and Partnerships in the Region’s Community & Health Services Department responsible for strategic social policy and community development initiatives, and as Director and Deputy Treasurer in the Finance Department overseeing the delivery and transformation of a number of financial and business services. He also held progressive positions in the Ontario Public Service, including as executive assistant and policy advisor to Deputy Minister and Assistant Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Energy and at the Ministry of Infrastructure.

He started his public service career as an economist at Finance Canada working on agriculture policy.
