Every convocation celebrates not just achievement, but the growth, resilience, and experiences that shaped the journey. Here, Barima Dankwa, the valedictorian of the GEMBA class, gives a personal account of how far he’s come and how much he’s grown over the course of his globe‑spanning academic journey. “A degree like ours is a key, not a crown. It opens doors. It does not tell you which doors are worth opening.” Wise words from a wise (soon‑to‑be) graduate.

With Rotman Convocation around the corner on June 17, let’s meet the terrific valedictorians chosen by their fellow students to represent them on this milestone day. The Rotman EMBA class is known for its tight bonds and powerful network, so being chosen as the valedictorian of the graduating class is a true honour. In this video, Lindsay Kruit — who will graduate with her peers on June 17 at Convocation Hall — sends a very personal message of thanks and admiration to her classmates, who balanced the stringent demands of the program with personal milestones — good and bad — that they helped weather together. The resilience of the class and their shared sense of caring, support and purpose are hallmarks of this executive MBA program.

What happens when health struggles become a start-up idea?

Abdul Mohammed (MBA '26) spent years battling anxiety and fatigue without answers. Frustrated by long wait times and the stigma around men’s health, he decided to build a solution.

His company, Androgen Lab, is on a mission to make at-home male hormone testing accessible across Canada, where the self-testing market is projected to hit US$976 million by 2033.

Abdul credits Rotman's community, mentorship, and connections for helping him go from idea to founder. "You get out what you put in — if you want to explore and grow, you will."

At this year’s Family & Friends Fun Day, we caught up with Nathalie (MBA ’10) and Shamir Amlani (MBA ’09) — two Rotman alumni who first met on campus and have now been returning to the event for five years straight, this time with two kids in tow.

More than a decade after graduation, their connection to Rotman has only grown stronger. What started as a fun outing has become a family tradition — one that gives them the chance to share a piece of their Rotman story with their children.

For their kids, the day is packed with adventure: hands-on games, creative activities and exploring one of Toronto’s iconic landmarks together. For the Amlanis, it’s something even bigger — staying connected to the community that helped shape their lives.

“It’s a nice way to grow with the Rotman community,” they shared. Their advice to fellow alumni? Come back, even just for a day. You may be surprised by how quickly Rotman still feels like home.

Co-founder and CEO of Prefab Photonics (CDL-Toronto AI 2025/26), Dusan Gostimirovic came in knowing Creative Destruction Lab meant being part of something bigger. What surprised him was just how much the Rotman students brought to the table. Dusan says working with Rotman MBA students brought real intelligence, genuine curiosity, and work that actually moved the needle.

Prefab Photonics is developing an AI-powered platform that predicts how photonic integrated circuits will perform after fabrication, eliminating the costly trial-and-error that slows the entire industry down.
