The Department of Architectural Science is dedicated to the pursuit of integrated, sustainable approaches to the design and development of the built environment. The Department offers a pre-professional Bachelor of Architectural Science degree, with options in Architecture, Building Science, and Project Management, the goal of which is to educate students for a wide range of professional roles in

the construction industry. In addition, we offer Masters degree programs in Architecture – designed as rigorous preparation for entry into the architectural profession – and Building Science, a unique program in Canada that offers graduates of building-related programs an opportunity to explore the building science principles necessary to deliver sustainable buildings. Toronto Metropolitan University's professional program in architecture comprises a four-year B.Arch.Sci. degree plus the two-year M.Arch. degree. This program received full accreditation by the Canadian Architectural Certification Board (CACB) in 2010. The Department is located in a Ron Thom-designed facility on the Toronto Metropolitan University campus in the heart of downtown Toronto, and was founded in 1948. We boast a multidisciplinary faculty carrying out a broad array of research, scholarly and creative projects, exciting exhibitions, guest lectures, symposia and other events throughout the year. Most events other than program courses are open to the general public, and are usually free of charge – so come and visit us!

We have an exclusive masterclass opportunity happening tomorrow, July 16 for students and emerging alumni with co-founder ! 🏛️

In collaboration with the 2026 Italian Contemporary Film Festival Architettura & Design program, DAS is excited to host one of Italy’s leading contemporary architects for an in-depth session at the TMU Architecture Building (The Pit). As part of the 2026 ICFF lineup, DAS students, faculty, and emerging alumni are welcome for an exclusive masterclass that explores how contemporary design can engage with historically complex sites through precision, restraint, and cultural responsibility.

In this special event, Clemente will discuss her design philosophy and methodology—from conceptual research to built ex*****on. She will share deep insights into Labics’ internationally recognized work, including winning the high-profile international competition for the redevelopment of the Colosseum and Rome’s Imperial Fora—one of the most significant contemporary interventions within a UNESCO World Heritage context. She will also explore her vision of architecture as a mediator between past and present through major projects like Città del Sole, MAST, and the Palazzo dei Diamanti extension.

The lecture will conclude with an open discussion, moderated by .arch, DAS Chair, and Pina Petricone, founding co-partner of . Don’t miss this chance to learn how architecture can act as a process of interpretation, engaging existing structures, histories, and urban narratives. See you there!

The exhibit is a collaboration between BAIDA Canada SOSA - Society of South Asian Architects, Canada and Toronto Met Department of Architectural Science and is rooted in the internationally acclaimed BeyondtheBuiltEnvironment initiative founded by Pascale Sablan 🌱

This event will showcase excellence by celebrating up to 50 diverse designers at different career stages through data, graphics, storytelling, and networking.
