What a way to kick off the year! 🎉

Today, we welcomed our newest Graphic Communications Management at The Creative School students to campus for GCM Academic Orientation 2026.

From meeting faculty, staff, and student groups to hearing from our alumni panel and getting to know the GCM community, the day was all about helping our incoming students feel ready for what’s ahead.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make today possible, including our faculty, staff, alumni, student groups, volunteers, and the GCM Course Union.

A surprise proposal brought Graphic Communications Management at The Creative School alumna Julia Lukaski-Dolecki (’21) back to Pitman Hall, where she and her longtime partner first met as Toronto Metropolitan University students!

Since graduating, Lukaski-Dolecki has built a successful career as an interactive producer with Canada's Olympic Network, working on four Olympic Games and supporting on-site coverage in Paris and Milan.

On Friday, July 24th, 15 Guidance Counsellors from Mexico, UAE, Nigeria, Ghana, Philippines, Ethiopia, Brazil, Vietnam, USA, Japan and China came and visited TMU!

During their visit they attended an exclusive workshop at GCM, learning about what makes our program unique, our concentrations, and an insight into the packaging industry, while including a glimpse into TMU, GCM, and a workshop led by Dr. Solmaz Karamikamkar about the packaging
industry.

Over 100 high school students visited Graphic Communications Management (Graphic Communications Management at The Creative School) this week to explore sustainability in printing and packaging🫟🖨️

On July 21 and 23, Grade 10 and 11 students in the SHAD At Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) summer program took part in a hands-on zine workshop led by GCM instructor Jay Wong, toured our upstairs lab facilities, and learned more about the technology behind printing and packaging.

Each student also took home a sustainable paper phone holder produced in-house!

Graphic Communications Management at The Creative School alumus Michael Carter-Arlt created two interactive installations for the Aga Khan Museum's “Game On!” exhibition using immersive technology and digital fabrication.

As Toronto Metropolitan University's Immersive Technology Specialist, Michael designed a custom chessboard and puzzle, which were fabricated with support from TMU’s Design & Technology Lab.

The project is part of an ongoing collaboration between TMU Libraries and the Aga Khan Museum, using technology and archival research to create engaging museum experiences.

Fourth-year Graphic Communications Management at The Creative School student Amelie Thomson is gaining hands-on industry experience as a Structural Packaging Design Intern at Mini Giants Inc this summer!

Through her internship, Amelie is strengthening her design skills, expanding her structural packaging knowledge and deepening her appreciation for accessible and sustainable design.

Her advice to incoming GCM students? “Be open and say yes to opportunities, get involved outside the classroom, stay curious, and ask questions. The connections you build and the experiences you gain will shape your perspective, strengthen your abilities, and help define your future career.”
