Celebrating our remarkable 30th year anniversary in 2021, Computek is an Ontario-based career college dedicated to providing practical learning for newcomers to become employed. Our students learn from industry proven instructors, access special workshops that give them a competitive edge in the job market, and effectively leverage financial aid and career services. With campuses in Toronto, Markham, and Ajax, we offer several diploma and certification programs in business, healthcare, and technology with additional weeknight and weekend classes. : Meet Magdeline Songita Gomes

Meet Magdeline Songita Gomes, one of our graduates from the Early Childhood Assistant program.

She enjoys working with children and caring for them. Before this chapter, she was a manager. She chose to change her profession so she could start working with children.

That shift needed a skill she did not yet have. Computek College is where she acquired it. The program turned the decision into something she could actually do.

That is what makes the story matter. A graduate who changed direction, and found a path that matched what she wanted to do with her days.

October is still Cyber Security Awareness Month in Canada. The theme has not changed: your best defence is you.

This week the focus is on the lock itself. A strong, unique password. A password manager so you are not reusing the same one. Multi-factor authentication turned on, so a stolen password is not enough.

The alert from last week still matters. The defence only holds if the account behind it is harder to open.

Strengthen the lock. Then keep the habit.

Meet Margaret Owaga, one of our graduates from the Personal Support Worker program.

She talks about a journey that was good, and hard. The kind of hard that tests whether you keep going. What made the difference, she says, was her instructor, Mrs Fiza, who made the work feel possible through team and group work in class. The guidance from Computek staff helped her carry the rest.

Margaret is glad she finished. She is also looking ahead. Graduation is not the end of the story. It is the point where the classroom gives way to the next chapter.

: Meet Almaz Sebhatu Debesay

Meet Almaz Sebhatu Debesay, one of our graduates from the Early Childhood Assistant program.

She was raising six children, studying, and working at the same time. That is not a small load. She carried it, and she finished.

Today she has opened her own daycare, and she has also secured a job in the field. She talks about the impact Computek College had on that path the training that turned a goal into something she could build a career on.

Almaz is also clear about the message she wants other students to hear. If you are in the middle of the hard part, keep going. The next chapter is possible.

Our Chairman's Message on OSAP Pause

The recent decision by the Ontario government to pause OSAP funding for students attending private career colleges has created tremendous uncertainty for thousands of individuals working hard to build better futures for themselves and their families.

We support accountability, transparency and the responsible use of public funds. But we must also ensure that students who have done everything right are not left behind.

For 35 years, Computek College has maintained good standing with the Ministry of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence and Security helping students gain the skills, confidence and opportunities to succeed.

Our commitment to accountability is longstanding:

* Every Computek class is instructor-led.
* Our financial statements are independently audited by a third party and submitted annually to the Ministry.
* We undergo annual Ministry inspections covering our classrooms, financials and operations to ensure compliance.

But beyond policies, processes and regulations, our greatest responsibility has always been to our students.

Behind every student is a family, an ambition and a future worth investing in. Education is more than a credential. It is a pathway to economic independence, dignity and opportunity.

We are calling on our employer partners, community organizations and stakeholders to stand with us in urging the Ministry to restore OSAP access for students attending compliant career colleges.

We can protect the integrity of our education system without compromising the futures of those it was designed to serve.

Computek College is deeply concerned about the Ontario government’s decision to pause OSAP payments to private career colleges. The pause took effect without notice and puts more than 40,000 students, 10,000 sector workers, and nearly 500 small and medium businesses in the postsecondary education sector at immediate risk.

Our position

On October 9, 2026, we wrote to Minister Nolan Quinn seeking urgent action and clarity.

We support the government’s audit and its referral of these matters to the Auditor General and the Ontario Provincial Police. Fraud has no place in career education, and we will cooperate fully with any authority reviewing the sector.

However, the sweeping freeze on all OSAP payments to private career colleges harms students and colleges that have done nothing wrong. None of the government’s stated concerns apply to Computek. We have no ties to immigration firms and no shared ownership with any other colleges. Our programs are instructor-led with verified attendance, and our records are open to the Ministry and whose audits and compliance reviews we have successfully passed year after year.

We have asked the government to restore OSAP urgently for students who enrolled before August 1, 2026 and to set up an expedited review to restore financial aid for students who have enrolled since August 1. Computek has volunteered to be among the first institutions reviewed.

To our nearly 1,500 current students

Most of you were approved for OSAP before August 1. You enrolled in good faith, under the rules the province announced. We understand that this unannounced change puts a heavy financial burden on you. It threatens your ability to finish your program and to cover rent, food, childcare, and transportation. You should not pay for a problem you did not create.

You are not alone. Classes continue, our doors remain open, and our staff are here for you. We will keep advocating for you and keep you updated.

We are not waiting for government timelines. We are already exploring ways to support current students and will be contacting you in the coming days. If you have not yet heard from us yet, please contact our Financial Aid Office at [email protected].

Ontario’s workforce is at stake

Our largest programs train personal support workers, early childhood assistants, and community service workers. Ontario urgently needs people in these roles. Each student forced to stop training is one fewer caregiver or educator for Ontario families. At a time when Ontario must compete and create jobs, this approach weakens our labour market for years to come.
