Bulletin 5 – May 20, 2026

We met for the 5th full day of bargaining yesterday, with a wide-range of non-monetary issues on the agenda, including the definition of course load, TA appointment process and the role of TAs in studio courses, layoff/recall/severance, technological changes (i.e., AI) and updated the MoA to reflect the title change for Senior Software Engineers (formerly IT Technicians). Plus a few Administration proposals on service and conflict of commitment.

We made some progress, with the Administration agreeing to one of our proposals, and the parties inched closer to more agreements while exchanging several counters and updated proposals, and productive discussion. But many non-monetary issues remain to be resolved, and progress needs to pick up.

Two full days of bargaining are lined up in June, and while we may need to take a bit of a break, OCADFA remains available to bargain over the summer.

According to data from the Council of Ontario Universities. This is the second consecutive year with record enrollment, despite decreased enrollment from international students.

Application data for 2026-27 suggest the record will soon be broken for the third consecutive year.

*For its part, OCADU saw a decrease of 6% in the number of applicants for 2026-27, but this comes on the heels of a provincial leading 25% increase last year.
