Transitional Year Programme

Transitional Year Programme The Transitional Year Programme (TYP) is a full-time, eight-month access-to-University program. Classes commence in September and finish in April.

The Transitional Year Programme at UofT is an access program for individuals who do not have the formal educational background to qualify for direct entry admission to the University. TYP offers an intensive, 8-month, full-time course of studies leading to entrance to the Faculty of Arts and Science degree programs. TYP is aimed specifically at those who did not have an opportunity to finish high

school nor had the grades necessary to directly apply to the university because of financial problems, family obligations or other circumstances beyond their control. The programme accepts mature students and Refugee and Protected Person applicants, however it does not accept international students. For description of courses, please refer to our website: http://sites.utoronto.ca/typ/. Check out this video where some of our TYP students share their experience at the Transitional Year Programme! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPbTxymRqQ0

How to apply:

There are six (6) things you need to complete your application.

1. Fill out an online application form at www.utoronto.ca/typ.
2. Gather all of your transcripts/official grades from previous schooling.
3. Acquire two people that will write you a reference letter, one (1) work and or academic reference letter and one (1) personal reference letter.
4. Write a personal statement outlining what this opportunity will mean for you. You can write your personal Statement like a letter explaining: past, present and future events that have led you to TYP.
5. Copy of Canadian gov. ID (Passport, PR Card, and Birth Certificate)
6. Attend a Writing Sample session

On behalf of alumna, Jessica Stockdale, please see her research participation invitation below:

"I’m excited to share that recruitment is now open for my research study Beyond Barriers.

I want to highlight the experiences of adult learners from UofT’s Transitional Year Programme (TYP) who have an interest in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM). Participants must have had an interest in STEM either before, during or after their TYP experience. My goal is that participants will have the opportunity to reflect on and celebrate the skills, resilience, and knowledge they already carry with them. If you’re eligible or know someone who may be, please consider sharing this poster and share your email to be contacted through the link below: https://ubc.ca1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_1GrK3xoDG1NfnIq
