BANNED IN 1530. ONSTAGE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN ENGLISH IN TORONTO IN 2026.

Cornelis Everaert's The Play of the Fluctuating Currency was never performed in its own time. Nearly 500 years later, PLS brings this surprisingly still-relevant play to the stage in a brand new English translation. It's a play that asks the question we're still asking today: when the economy fails, who pays the price?

And we're performing it on one of our newly built replica pageant wagons!

According to Dylan Coley, director and Victoria College alumnus, the play is "thick with sarcasm, with everyone blaming someone else for what's wrong—especially when fingers get pointed at the currency, or at 'Many People' in general, for what really is a matter of government mismanagement and abuse."

We’re excited to be partnering again with the Centre for Renaissance and Reformation Studies - CRRS.

With extra support from the Jackman Humanities Institute, we’re rolling out one of our new wagons again this year for three performances only!

Join us for this fun early modern Dutch morality play that was so subversive in its own time it was banned.

Its themes addressing currency arbitrage and inflation make this play shockingly relevant today.

This is the first time ever that it will be played in English.

THE FOX AND THE WOLF (AND THE CHICKEN)
One more free Toronto presentation

This weekend will be your last chance to catch our travelling production of THE FOX AND THE WOLF (AND THE CHICKEN) to be presented as part of a performance panel at the Records of Early English Drama (REED) 50th Anniversary Colloquium.

This performance and the free follow-up actor workshop will be of interest to actors looking to expand their craft and to scholars engaged in performance-based research.

The panel includes a presentation by Morgan Moore on PLS’s recent production of THE STRONG MAN, followed by our portable 20-minute production, then open discussion and Q&A.
