Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI) - UBC Pi Gamma chapter of Phi Gamma Delta @ The University of British Columbia

Chartered in 1929, the Pi Gamma chapter of Phi Gamma Delta, FIJI as it's short for, is one of the oldest fraternities on the campus of UBC. Last year, by raising over $10,000 through donations from community support and local business for the Canadian Mental Health Association, FIJI has reaffirmed themselves as a dominant and leading fraternity at UBC. The brothers of the Pi Gamma chapter were the champions of 3x UBC Rec Sports Leagues (Ice Hockey Sept 2019 & Jan 2020, Indoor Futsal Jan 2019 & Sept 2019 & Jan 2020, and Flag Football - Sept 2018 & Jan 2019) over the past few years and also holds the title of 2018 and 2019 Gammies Winners, making it clear that the Pi Gamma chapter continues to strive for excellence in all of it's endevours. FIJI believes that scholarship is the path to excellence and will support any brother who wishes to fulfill academic achievements of any kind. FIJI also believes that gentlemen involved in recruitment and rush at UBC should only make their decision to join a specific fraternity after inquiring about all fraternities on campus to ensure that gentleman has made their own decisions without being forced or coerced in one direction or another. In doing so, FIJI wishes to prove to the students of UBC that fraternities can not only be a positive influence on social skills but that fraternities are also necessary to achieve the leadership skills and dedication needed to fulfill any job at hand for the rest of their duration at UBC and throughout life.

Meet Brother Natcher, a member of Pi Gamma’s Rush Class of 2022, now entering his fifth year — or, as he likes to call it, his “FIJI Five.”

This summer, John spent the first half in Nuuk, Greenland, working as a Research Assistant in the Department of Arctic Social Science and Economics at the University of Greenland (Ilisimatusarfik). Naturally, he wasted no time exploring the vast bar scene of Greenland’s capital while taking in everything the Arctic had to offer, continuing a tradition from summers spent in Bodø, Norway, and Lapland, Finland.

A double major in International Relations and Political Science, John has remained deeply involved at UBC. He served two consecutive years as President of the UBC Pre-Law Association, culminating in the club being named UBC’s Best Overall Club in 2026, while also serving as Co-Director of UBC Moot Court. Beyond campus, John has worked with several international organizations, including the WWF Global Arctic Programme and the Arctic Mayors Forum.

Now entering his final year, John will be heading to Rome for an academic exchange at LUISS Guido Carli.

Outside of his professional life, John is an avid skier, mountain biker, and reigning Brotherhood Baseball champion. But none of those compare to his favourite pastime: “harmonizing with his boys.”

When asked why he chose FIJI, John shared:

“Having grown up in Saskatoon, SK, coming to the ‘metropolis’ of Vancouver was a shock to the system, but after being introduced to FIJI, it made the transition feel seamless.

It’s becoming too easy for students at a competitive university like UBC to focus only on grades and extracurriculars at the expense of having fun. The best thing about Phi Gamma Delta is that it gave me that balance while contributing to much of my success during undergrad.

The friends I’ve made, the stories I’ve created, and the Brotherhood I’ll belong to for the rest of my life all stem from the best decision I’ve made — and I’d feel sorry for anyone who passed up the opportunity to be a part of it.”

Introducing our 2026 Rush Chairs.

Brother Wyatt Howell is an incoming fourth-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, with plans to attend law school. For three summers, Wyatt has worked with the Vancouver Police Department in Training and Academy Services.

Brother Levi Kanewske is an incoming second-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations with a Master of Management at the Sauder School of Business. Planning to attend law school, he interned with Kirke Management Consulting, gaining experience in privacy law and data management. A member of UBC’s Men’s Rugby team, Levi has represented Canada at the U18 level and British Columbia at the U19 National Championships.

When asked why he chose FIJI, Wyatt shared:

“I feel incredibly fortunate to spend my undergraduate years surrounded by peers of quality and distinction. FIJI hasn’t just been a place of growth for me, but an adventure where I’ve made lifelong friendships and memories. I chose FIJI because I wanted to be part of something greater than myself and surround myself with strong values and driven aspirations. The supportive attitude within this brotherhood pushes each of us to heights we may not have imagined. My experience in FIJI has enriched every aspect of my life and has been one of the best decisions I’ve made at UBC.”

When asked why he chose FIJI, Levi shared:

“Coming to UBC, I had plenty pulling at me from day one — rugby, a heavy course load, and a clear picture of where I wanted to end up after university. What I hadn’t found was the group that tied it all together. That’s what FIJI became for me.

From the start, these were guys I genuinely respected — ambitious, sharp, and the kind of company that makes you better by being around them. I found myself surrounded by people chasing something real and pushing each other forward. That kind of standard is contagious.

The friendships I’ve made here are ones I know will outlast university, and the confidence this brotherhood has given me has carried into every corner of my life. Of all the decisions I’ve made at UBC, investing in this one has given back the most.”
