🏗️ Construction continues to make steady progress at the Centre for Clean Energy and Automotive Innovation (CCEAI).

Last week, members of VCC's Senior Leadership Team joined Bird Construction for a site tour to see firsthand how the project is taking shape. The future facility will provide state-of-the-art learning spaces that support clean energy, transportation, and skilled trades education in British Columbia.

Thank you to Bird Construction and all project partners for their ongoing collaboration as we work toward opening this exciting new space for students and industry.

🔧 VCC was pleased to participate in the Mechanical Contractors Association of BC (MCABC) Leadership Conference, where industry leaders gathered to discuss the future of workforce development and skilled trades training.

Lucy Griffith, Dean of VCC's School of Trades, Technology & Design, presented on VCC's Modernized Apprenticeship Pathway (MAP), highlighting opportunities to create more flexible, industry-responsive apprenticeship models. She also joined Brennan Wauters for a panel discussion on apprenticeship modernization and the evolving needs of industry.

We're grateful for the positive conversations and look forward to continuing our collaboration with MCABC as we work together to support student success, strengthen industry partnerships, and help build the skilled workforce of tomorrow.

As we recognize National Indigenous History Month, we're taking time to listen, learn, and reflect.

In this video, Elder Ruth, Elder Jean, Toni Gladstone, Dr. Cheryl Ward, Elder Lorelei, Santana Walker, Bradley Pearce from Helping Spirit Lodge, and Stephanie Holmes from the Indian Residential School Survivors Society share their stories, experiences, and reflections on the lasting impacts of colonization, the importance of cultural teachings, and the strength of Indigenous communities.

We are honoured to share these reflections and grateful to everyone who contributed their knowledge, experiences, and stories. Their voices help deepen our understanding of Indigenous histories and the ongoing path toward reconciliation.

🌱 Last week, the VCC community gathered at our Broadway campus for the annual Three Sisters Garden planting.

Hosted by the Indigenous Education and Community Engagement team, the hands-on afternoon offered a meaningful way for participants to learn from Elders and knowledge holders about cooperation, reciprocity, and our relationship with the land.

It was a beautiful day of collaborative storytelling and strengthening ties to the traditional territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh peoples. We appreciate Rebecca Duncan, VCC’s Knowledge Holder in Residence, for grounding the space with an incredible drumming session, and everyone who joined us to cultivate this shared community space.

🦷 Smiles, learning, and community care came together once again as Vancouver Community College welcomed elementary school children to our Downtown Dental Clinic for complimentary preventative dental care.

Now in its 20th year, this initiative helps improve access to oral health services while giving VCC Certified Dental Assisting students valuable hands-on experience. From oral health education to visits from our VCC "tooth fairies," children were welcomed into a positive and supportive environment designed to build healthy habits and confidence.

Thank you to our students, faculty, staff, and partners for helping make a difference, one smile at a time.
