Today, our PC’23 sister and VP External shares how Kappa has helped her experience one of Kappa’s core values: Knowledge 🧠

“In my first year, I really struggled with academics and finding a healthy work-life balance. It wasn’t until I was immersed in Kappa and surrounded by all these hardworking, intelligent girls that I felt inspired to change. Seeing them balance a million things at once made me realize that success wasn’t luck, it was learned and earned.

Kappa gave me more than advice, it gave me mentorship and knowledge like nothing I had ever experienced before. From shared study resources to late-night study sessions to resume tips, I was constantly learning from the women around me. Their support helped me not only rebuild my motivation in school but my confidence too.

By second year, with the support and knowledge passed down from older girls, I was able to raise my average by 12% while maintaining a much healthier lifestyle. That experience taught me just how powerful knowledge can be when it’s shared and I couldn’t have done it without Kappa. Now, I hope to pay it forward by supporting younger girls the way I was supported and inspire them to value shared knowledge in the same way!”

“It’s hard to expect the most from your university experience, but I can confidently say that joining Kappa has left me with nothing short of the best. Being surrounded by nearly 100 intelligent, hilarious, and passionate women has built me up to be the best I can be. Kappa puts you straight into an environment that allows you to be vulnerable, grow, and stay true to yourself, as cliché as that is. These girls show up for each other in the smallest but most meaningful ways - whether that’s Ella .vanderwerff bringing a curated goodie bag of all my favourite things straight to my door on a day I felt down, or Phoebe putting everything aside to celebrate my birthday in the middle of midterm season. And for me, no relationship represents that more than the one I have with my big, Simi . She has been such an incredible source of love, guidance, inspiration, and support in my life, and I truly wouldn’t be half the woman I am today without her. Without this community, UBC wouldn’t be the same, and without Simi, I honestly don’t think I would’ve found my place in it the way I did. When I say becoming a Kappa has been one of the best decisions I’ve made in a very long time, I’m not exaggerating.”

Our PC’25 duo, Bronnie and Danielle, headed to Maui after exams and spent some time on the island. This is what they have to say about their trip…

“We loved celebrating the end of the school year the best way possible in Maui! From going on hikes, swimming in the ocean, and watching the most beautiful sunsets, we adored spending the first few bits of summer in Maui! Although we now have outrageous sun burns, we are so grateful to have travelled to such a wonderful island! 🌸🤍⚜️”

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and if you don’t already know, this is a cause that’s especially close to our hearts at Kappa 🩵

Our philanthropy event Kamp Kappa, raises money for mental health initiatives with , and we are so proud to support mental health education and advocacy across Canada.

This is what our DEI director Issy has to say about how Kappa has supported her journey…

“Kappa means so much to me because it’s more than a group, it’s a support system that reminds me that I don’t have to carry everything on my own, and my sisters always have my back. Kappa has helped me grow stronger, because they support each individual for who they truly are, and it’s so incredibly inspiring to see the love in the chapter.”
