The Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences (PIMS) was created in 1996 by the community of mathematical scientists in Alberta and British Columbia, and subsequently extended to both Washington State and Saskatchewan. Our mandate is to promote research in and applications of the mathematical sciences, to facilitate the training of highly qualified personnel, to enrich public awareness of an

d education in the mathematical sciences, and to create mathematical partnerships with similar organizations in other countries (with a particular focus on the Pacific Rim). PIMS funds Collaborative Research Groups, Post-Doctoral Fellowships and individual events on a competitive basis.

Mark your calendars for the 13th!

Tomorrow, at 1pm MT/ 12pm PT, Florian Schwarz will be talking about the adjunction between tangent categories and Cartesian differential categories for the University of Calgary Faculty of Science Peripatetic Seminar series.

Visit https://tinyurl.com/pimscalgary for location/Zoom details.

Tangent categories are a categorical generalization of the category of manifolds by having maps like the projection and the zero-section of the tangent bundle that fulfill certain relations. With a similar strategy, Cartesian differential categories generalize the category of finite-dimensional R-ve...
